Default How difficult to remove front bumper on 2012 CTT?

I am having a Passport 9500ci installed and my (reputable) installer said they can't get access to the front grill to mount the sensor and laser shifters without removing the front bumper. However they don't think they can easily remove the front bumper (they have worked on earlier model years). They were also advised by a body shop that the cruise control sensor would need to be re-calibrated if the bumper got removed.

Is it that difficult?

Does the sensor have to be re-calibrated?

Has anyone done a 9500ci install on a 2011/2012 CTT in the SF Bay Area?

Thanks!
Charles

I've searched and searched and can't find a thread on successfully removing the 958 CTT front bumper. Anyone done it and care to share or anyone have a link to something?

I'm trying to replace the horns and clean out the hundreds of bug carcasses I collected this weekend.

I have a 2016 CSeH and had the ALP Dual + 9500ci installed by Audio Designs on Stevens Creek in San Jose. I have validated the ALP install (level and pointed straight) and fully tested against a TS and TSS, with JTG results in all areas of the front of the car.

Audio Designs said the bumper removal was more difficult than the 958.1, but they were able to remove/reinstall it successfully without any damage or measurable increases in bumper to fender/headlights/hood gaps.

Granted I don't have PAS, so I'm not sure whether the cruise control sensor would need to be recalibrated.

It doesn't appear that the cruise control sensor is mounted on any part of the bumper (i have holes in the metal frame behind the bumper for the cruise control sensor), so it's hard to imagine why it would need to be recalibrated if only the front bumper is removed.

If the front bumper/facia is removed, you may very well have to have the ACC/PAS sensor recalibrated. The recalibration procedure has to be done by a dealer as far as I know, due to specialized equipment used in the process.

Fortunately I don't have adaptive cruise control so there shouldn't be any reprogramming required.

I got the bumper off last night. It wasn't much trouble other than a bit of checking and double checking that everything was loose so I wouldn't have to pull too hard on anything and cause damage. It took about an hour and half to get it off and that was going carefully. I'll try to post the process with some pictures once it's all complete.

Here are the steps I used to remove the 2011 CTT front bumper:

Tools needed: 25 & 30 Torx, 10mm socket, headlight tool from stock tool kit (or allen wrench)

1. Remove the plastic cover over the radiator
2. Remove the headlights
3. Jack up the front end and set on jack stands (I place the stands under the A-arm frame rails)
4. Remove the front wheels
5. Remove both inner wheel housings
6. Remove the front under engine cover
7. Disconnect the 3 electrical plugs under the bumper on the passenger side
8. Unclip the headlight washer fluid hose from the bumper and tank clips (if the bumper can stay with the car, the hose is long enough that it doesn't need to be disconnected and drained)
9. Pop out the corner marker lights and disconnect the bulbs
10. Remove the 2 clips on either side on the bumper piece between the headlights and radiator opening
11. Remove the 3 bolts on the bottom at the back of the skid plate
12. Remove the 2 bolts on each side behind the corner marker lights
13. Remove the 3 bolts on the top of the bumper in front of the radiator
14. With one person on either side of the bumper cover, carefully slide the bumper forward to remove.

Putting it back together is just a reverse of these steps. The only part of this that was even a little difficult is refitting the wheel inner covers. Make sure everything is back where it should be before tightening the dozens of screws. Pay special attention to the cover where it meets the brake cooling channel since there's a little tab it needs to fit in.

Thanks for the bumper removal posts and pics! How did the 9500ci radar detector install go?

FYI - this thread has been edited a bit (took out comments) and made a DIY. Can be seen at: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...-2012-ctt.html

Congrats!
