You are sure quick to blame the dealer... especially considering the dealer's OE transfer case comes filled with fluid. Instead I'd bet the prior owner was responsible for what you see. Unless you know first hand the dealer did that (again, the dealer transfer cases come with fluid!), it's a bit rough to give them such grief, no?

Well, it was replaced at 32K miles by the dealer and shows cracks at 49K miles. How many owners would change the fluid in those intervening 17,000 miles? Seems very unlikely. The service interval is far longer than that. So, the most likely scenario is an issue at install. Sure, there are other scenarios, but they are less likely in my view.

Anyway, back to the main topic of the thread. The remaining parts finally cleared customs (after all of the tariff volatility), and I'm really excited for the finished build. I'll post pictures when it's done!

I'm with you on this one @garrett376 . Ten to one someone in the PO orbit (indy) mistook the TC case plug for the oil drain or they wanted to change the fluid early in good faith and overtorqued the plug.

After Porsche installed a new TC at 37k miles in my 2014 CTT, I have been changing fluid at 10k miles. I am sure there are others doing the same as it is cheap and takes 10 min top. I took early advice to skip the torque wrench and put the plugs back in the same depth as they were.

Yep, put some RTV on it, then just snug it down...with a short wrench.

Wow, an exciting thread! I'm definitely subscribed and looking forward to the final result.

Do share what all are you getting done. I shall be following your lead and build my 958.1 GTS into an offroader, though for hardcore UAE desert!

Right now battling with some issues on the car myself which are listed in the thread https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...a-cayenne.html

Maybe you / your trusted garage and chime in to help solve these.

Looking forward..
