Question Threaded Spreader Rivet Removal

What is the secret to removing plastic threaded spreader rivets that are used to hold trim panels in place? Not finding an answer via Google machine. There is a hole in the head, but it doesn't seem to have a geometry to accommodate Torx, hex, screwdriver, or anything else. They are threaded, so prying them out breaks them. Ran into a couple in the back side panel of the luggage compartment in our Cayenne.

There are a couple different part numbers, but they appear the same to me:
  • N-107-009-01 Spreader rivet
  • 701-867-299 Clip

Thanks for your reply. I tried that with no success. I found more than one, and none of them appeared to have a shape to match a tool. I guess it's possible they were all chewed up.

I would try a trim pry tool to lift it up and then twist off with pliers. Most likely you'll replace so bend the sides up and twist off.
