Default 2014 CD: 1D6 - Trailer hitch without tow ball

The option list on my 2014 Diesel has 1D6 - trailer hitch without tow ball. There is a 2" receiver hitch, but I've never seen any wiring. Is this just a hitch with no wiring for lights? What would I need to do to connect a small trailer with no brakes?

There is a plate to the left of the receiver held on with 4 screws. You just remove the filler plate and get a 7 pin connector to plug into there.

My 2014 Cayenne Diesel has the 1D6 option code which includes the electric. My understanding is that they do not give you the connector next to the receiver to make the hitch work globally for north American 4 pin and 7 pin as well as whatever is used in the UK, Europe and Asia. I believe the 7 pin connector piece is about $20 and if you need the 7 pin to 4 pin adapter, that'll run you another $20.

I guess the reason I've never seen any wiring is that I never really looked very hard. Nicely tucked away on the left side of the hitch is a 7 pin circular connector with a lift up cover. I'll pick up a 7P circular to 4P flat adapter and I should be good to go.

It always feels nice to get a free upgrade.

Right...because if he needed to add the harness, module and programming, he'd be looking at a $1,000 estimate.

Thank you @bobbyp I had the same issue and had no idea. Just bought a camping trailer and was wondering about this. I have a 2016 with the factory tow package. Always wondered with the hitch lights plug into
