Default Engine and oil consumption

Hello everyone I hope someone can shed light on this. My cpo cs starting pinging at low speeds when in 2nd to 3rd gear especially up a hill. I saw that some people had luck with changing the mapping of the ECU but what is really troublesome is that I change my oil every 5,000 miles using Mobil 1 and since this happened I notice that I'm starting to burn oil, how much I'm not sure but its dropping on the electronic stick quicker then ever before. The car goes into Porsche of Larchmont next week, any thoughts on what to tell service? Thanks for the help.

Hi Anthony,

Welcome to the forum. It might help get better answers if we had an idea on the year of your CS.. some of the early V8's are probably reaching the point where the air/oil separator diaphragm needs replacement. Your CS shouldn't ping under any circumstances - the ECU retards the ignition as soon as it senses any pre-ignition... and who are the "some people" who are changing the mapping of the ECU? That's not a trivial thing to do..

Its a 2014 Cayenne S which I bought with 22,000 miles that I now have 57,000 miles on. I read on here that someone had a similar problem and the dealer re-mapped the car and it seemed to correct this (the pinging). I appreciate the help.

You were reading about the V6 engines.

Is your car the V6 or V8? (2104 appears to be a transition year..)

The V6 engines had a problem where the knock sensor was reading pinging when there wasn't any, and it was retarding the ignition. That wouldn't have any effect on oil consumption, and the V8 engines don't have that problem.

Since you're under CPO - hopefully, the dealer will sort it out. Please let us know what they find.

Resurrecting an old thread - I am looking at purchasing a 2011 Cayenne Turbo. I spoke to my Porsche dealer service manager and he gave me a couple of things to look for (in addition to the usual things like Transfer Case, etc). One was that he said the second gen Cayenne tends to burn oil - topping off every fill up or so not uncommon. Is this the experience others have had? I am not overly concerned, just curious.

The other issue was lower control arm bushing failure

Thanks!
David

No. My 2011 cs burns a little bit of oil, maybe a quart every 5k miles. If you are having severe oil burn, have a look at the air oil separator. The car should not burn meaningful amounts of oil between fill ups

Hmm, I've owned my cayenne since 15,000 miles and have never had to add oil in between oil changes. She now has 130,000 miles.

My 2014 CPO now has 129,000.
What oil are you using?

My diesel is getting oil leaks fixed at the moment but even with leaks it did not go down even a quart between 5k changes. Mobil one ESP. Mostly freeway driving for first 60k miles now has about 66k. 2013

2015 Cayenne S with 80K miles. I don't think I've ever added oil between changes.

I have a '16 GTS with 115k miles, and have also never seen the oil level drop between changes.

I'd strongly suggest starting with a flush of BGR EPR. Ensure to follow the 'real' instructions to a T which you can find with some searching. Also, your crank case size will probably take 2 cans; a lot of people use onl 1. If you want to have fun with it, put fresh oil in, perform the flush, and then drain it and see how much sludge was dissolved.
I've ready many first-hand accounts of this stuff fixing issues with burning oil.
