Default Transmission Fluid Change

2016 base, 91k miles. Changed it last weekend using fluid, filter, gasket from FCP Euro. My 6th gear had a bit of vibration at around 40 mph - not bad at all, but noticeable if you were paying attention.
Used instructions from Blauparts, but somehow missed the part about the special hose adapter. Luckily I had a brake fitting of the same thread, which is 10 x 1.0 (fine thread).

I was worried the fluid would be hard to push through such a small fitting, but it was no problem at all. I pumped up the Motive thingamajig and a few minutes later 5 L was gone.
Here are some photos:

Goo on the pan magnets:

Pan removed:

Cleaned up pan. The drain/fill hole is where a plastic insert is installed that sets the proper fluid level, at a specified fluid temperature. I was measuring the pan temperature (instead of using a scanner to get temp off the CAN bus), and it went up fairly quickly (engine idling) so I put the drain plug in and had to turn the engine off and let it cool a bit to continue the drain sequence.

I must have had 20 drops of fluid land on my head and face! I dropped the ratchet, when I had it on the fitting, and it fell into my catch bucket splashing fluid everywhere, and I loved dunking my arm in it. Oh well, comes with the territory

The 6th gear vibration seems better, but need more miles before making a final judgment.

Nice, thanks for posting.

Something i'm looking into on my GTS. I just bought a nice fluid transfer system that worked flawlessly on a buddys F150. just need to suss out if it has the proper screw in adapter.

So i dont quite undertand how this adapter thing works.
So u screw it in where the drain plug goes in the pan, fill and at the temp range specified, you pull off you fill hose from this adapter then see if it drains?
fill until it drains out, within the specified temperature range, then remove your fill line, leaving the adapter threaded in and lug it with the drain bolt?

It's a bit confusing but I think you have it correct. There is a plastic 'extension' already installed in the pan. You remove the extension (blue) so all/most of the fluid drains out. Then you reinstall it before/during filling. In addition to the extension you need an adapter (orange) to allow fluid to be pushed up into the pan. The adapter mates the hose (with fluid) to the 10 x 1 threads in the pan. See the cartoon below - it should help.

When fluid stops coming out, it has reached the top of the extension and is the proper level (assuming temperature is correct). I just did a transmission oil change on an IS 350 and it used the same procedure except they have distinct fill/drain and drain-to-level fittings.

sp it can be removed and replaced from the outside of the pan? I thought it was only accessible from the inside of the pan?

Not sure what "it" is in this context. If you are referring to the extension, it is removed from the outside. A hex goes up inside the drain hole and is inserted into the blue extension to remove it. Here's a cartoon of approximately what it looks like in a cutaway view.

I need to do this, thanks for the info. I have 180k on my S. I don't think the tranny is that old though. I know the TC isn't ... both look fairly new
sometimes it seems I feel a thud or thump when I go from reverse to D...
I changed the TC fluid when I got it, and I'll do it every other OC. and the differentials.
