Factory Hitch but no wiring

Factory Hitch but no wiring
I'm bummed. I've had my 2017 CS for less than a week. One of the things I specifically wanted was the factory tow hitch. Listed on the build sheet and the window sticker it says trailer hitch with no tow ball. I just took for granted that the factory wiring was included as it was on my 2016 CD. Nope.
How hard is it to add the wiring kit? It was a super easy on my wife's 2019 Subaru, $30 wiring kit from etrailer.com It had a 'male'female' connector in the spare tire wheel well. took all of 30 seconds to plug it in , works great.
Every thing I've seen for the Cayenne is I have to spice into the brake and turn signal light wires by taking out the rear taillights . Really don't want to do that. I wonder what is behind the square box next to the hitch , that is where the wiring connector was located on my old cayenne. Don't have time tonight to investigate. I hope there are wires in there.

That plate to the left of the hitch, take the 4 screws out and the connector is there ready to plug into a Pollak 7 way connector housing. All wiring is typically done and ready to go
minus that plug you have to plug into the connector behind that plate and acre back into the metal frame.

As all others have said. You just need either the 4 or 7 pin adapter (whichever you need for towing).
It's actually a good sign that the adapter is not already there. It means the car was never used to tow anything.

I'm a week in to my Cayenne ownership. I peeked back there yesterday since I didn't readily see the wiring and was bummed that there is just a plate. So glad to read that the wiring is in place. Also happy to read the notion that it's unlikely it's ever been used to tow anything since the wiring is tucked away. Will report back if it's anything more than a simple $25 adapter.

You can find 4 and 7 pin adapters depending on what you'll be towing. I bought my 08 V8 Treg as a demo car in MA specifying I wanted air suspension and tow. The air suspension was there and the tow hitch was there but (don't understand why) they ripped out all the f*ing wiring so I had to rewire everything myself.
Also, make sure you have or install a (Tekonsha or other) electronic proportional brake controller and get a WDH depending on size of what you're towing. Air suspension does not solve the issue. GL

Is the wiring pre installed even if Cayenne didn't come with a hitch?
If your Cayenne didn't come with a hitch, is the wiring still there? I want to install a hitch and wondering what I need to get. I've a 2016 diesel. Thanks.
