NT530 / How to Read Oil Level
#16
Thanks , this will be helpful to me as I now have a CS with no dipstick. and I have a Foxwell also!.
I added a dipstick to my old CD and used an extractor to drain. super easy. I've only had the CS a couple of days and dealer where I bought it from changed the oil ,so im set for a while.
thanks. Jim

One more update . . . I measured the level today again with the oil cold. It measured 80 mm.
So based on my testing, on a 2016 GTS, a full oil tank is 80 mm, when cold. Don't forget, that oil has to run through the new oil filter on an oil change. If you fill to 80 mm cold, then start the car to fill the oil filter, you'll likely need to top off again. Just a thought.

Can i ask please, when you have the time to check again that oil level in mm when temp around say 90/194 C/F ,
it should read a bit more than 90 mm .
based on approximate 9.5 Ltrs. of oil with a .00070 Coefficient of volumetric thermal expansion it should appear as close to 9.97 Ltrs ,
Assuming the coefficient is constant or near constant for that temperature range
Hot oil volume - Cold oil volume = 9.97 - 9.5 = 470 ml
considering. 1 mm = 35 ml
Hot oil level = 80 + 13.43 = 93.43 mm

You can do that if you allow the drained oil to cool down and measure its volume then, just for accuracy .
the engine Air oil separator will thank you. and its diaphragm will last much longer.

My '14 Diesel reads ~61.5mm with the NT530 corresponding to a middle level (2 green bars illuminated) on the dash. This corresponded to draining at warm temp and filling with ~7.5qts to avoid overfilling. The last .25 quarts I left to the bottle to avoid overfilling.
I think we need a table of the various levels dependent on model and year. '13-14 CDs have slightly more capacity than '15-16s for instance. VR6 cars will have different levels than V8 cars. GTS and Turbo will also have differences. Useful info for the future as these machines become increasingly DIY dependent.

I just wanted to thank you guys for this info. For what ever reason whenever I top up / service the oil the reading takes a day or two to come back. I did this method with my 2017 3.0 TDI and the reading was 72mm with a Autel MK808.
Forgot to mention that was cold.
