Hi guys, im new here. I’m planning to do a battery registration on my 2016 4.2diesel Cayenne S. it seems to have a oem Varta battery with a bem code installed. The new varta (aftermarket) that i can find are similar technically ( agm, 105ah din580 amp etc) but only has a “varta code” not a bem code as needed to battery registration. Do advise if anyone has success in this area. I do have a entry level icarsoft tool supporting battery systems not sure it’ll work though.
Here are some earlier threads about battery registration. On most modern VAG cars battery registration is needed to tell the cars BEM (battery energy management system) that a new battery is installed. This supposedly resets the charging parameters learned from the old battery. It is debated whether or not this is the case... but on Audis and Volkswagens people have experienced premature failure of new batteries when they have not been coded to the car..

I currently have a 958, 991 and a 981. I tried coding a recent battery installation on the 991 and 981 using a tool I bought from "iCarsoft".
It allows you to register the battery on that software tool but I could never determine the final battery code it needed. It seemed to need one on a Porsche battery and not on anything I used. I ended up buying AGM batteries at Walmart for both my 991 and 981. These cost about $181 each had a 4 year full replacement warranty.
