I would look long and hard at this statement if I was you, particularly if she is coming from a GC with U-Connect, I sold a 2018 Jeep Wrangler (JLU) and after a couple of months bought my 2016 base Cayenne. I too have been looking at the CarPlay mod, but I am still not sold on it, the technology that Jeep is offering in new vehicles is awesome, far more advanced that the 2016, but that is not why I bought a Porsche.
The CarPlay mod sure is cool, and it gives you Wireless CarPlay, but unless you are using your phone for all of your audio needs, streaming music (and not using the radio) it really isn't fully integrated.

This makes sense, although I am not and never have been a Lexus fan. My wife’s families parties looked like a Lexus dealership in the driveway for about 10 years. 2 RX’s, ES, LS, and IS all between everyone. All black. And they would just go back to the dealer and get the same car same color over and over again. I think she grew tired of them because she’s never liked a single Lexus since.

Non existent yet lol. Still working on what to do with her current car. It’s a lease but the buy out is reasonable considering the used car market at the moment. We seem to have around $8000 in equity, based on its current value, so we will probably buy it while we wait for the right Cayenne to come up for sale and lump that into our down payment. I like the .2 GTS, but my wife likes the newest gen, which even base trim is just out of budget. She likes the 19+ interior better, less hard buttons and more screen/digital/touch stuff. I agree. Even though I’m an analog guy, and enjoy very few buttons in my 996, I prefer the cleaner more modern center console of the new gen. the 958.2 has a LOT of buttons. However, CPO financing on a 2019 may be better than a 2016 model, rate wise. But depreciation on the newer car will be steeper. I also know I’m paying approx 22% premium compared to pre pandemic. Weighing options and trying not to let my heart make all the decisions lol.

Those buttons may not be as good looking, but she won't have to look for them once she gets used to where they are. The new Cayenne with all of the touch screens is a royal pain.....you have to learn menus, and they are not always logical. Porsche has become too "Audiesque." If I were going that way, I'd buy a Q8, or if I was willing to spend the cash, the RSQ8.

having had audis, the PCM is much more complicated and less intuitive than the audi system IMHO. the whole world went touch screen unfortunately. there was a time 5 or 10 years ago when audi said they would never go touchscreen because they wanted their system tactile and your eyes were for the road...not so much these days!

So we decided to look at lower mileage, 1 owner, CPO cars. This removed GTS or even S from our current budget. We drove an 18 Platinum Edition and a 19 base.
The 2019 was VERY uninspiring. It just felt like any SUV, you name it, there was nothing special about this drive at all…all brands ride great, smooth and quiet these days. I was expecting a more exciting drive, something to feel was worth going for a second Porsche. My wife and I were both disappointed.
Then we drove the 2018 Platinum Edition. We both preferred this car. It was quicker off the line, had a little more growl, felt more like a Porsche to me, but still not totally enamored with it. Was a great car. 2018, 32k miles, CPO. We also preferred this interior, even with the manual buttons. Crests in the headrests was a very cool touch. The center console area in the newer gen acts like a black mirror and the sun hitting it was blinding me. The 2018 did not have this issue, but for the money, I can’t justify it just because it has the Porsche crest on the hood. I don’t care about brand. I care about the history of the brand and the performance, but I don’t think these cars really live up to that. I think I would go for an S or GTS, but the base model doesn’t do it for it.
soooo…we are still a single Porsche household, at least until a good, in budget, CPO GTS comes up for sale lol.

Only one mistake: not buying it for yourself LOL
I have a 996TT and picked up a 14 GTS earlier this year. It may just be my all-time favorite vehicle I owned. I checked out a base 2020, 958.2 S and 958.1 turbo. The 958.1 GTS is the only one that really spoke to me. The handling still blows me away.

+1000 - completely agree, Im still super impressed with this rig - I cant get over how good the steering feel in an SUV, and the exhaust note just tooling around town - its the best of all worlds for a DD

I have an aftermarket exhaust valve on mine as well; it sounds incredible when it's open. More of a hotrod than SUV

the reason it felt different was the Plat. Was 958.2 and the Base was newest gen 2019.
We are moving forward with the Grand Cherokee L Altitude. After even more discussion, Cayenne was too small for my wife. Tahoe, Yukon and the likes are too big and expensive. The 3 row mid size SUVs are all bland IMO, except Durango and new GCL. Jeep takes the cake for us. You wouldn’t believe the options they include on the Altitude trim, which is basically a Laredo with a different package. Solid bang for buck, I think. We shall see!
