Could be a number of things. Blown speaker, bad wire, door resonance, or the amp itself.
Yea, I need to do some research. Seems to come from the passenger door when first opening the door and then it quietens down and all but disappears when driving.
I'm not that level of audiophile. I'm pretty happy with the stock Bose in my 958, except the crackle I get from the front door woofers at high volume. I think I would be most interested in the Audison 8" drop-in woofer package first. The center dash speaker is possibly a point for replacement, but I think the main issues are the dash / panel, not the speaker. I haven't addressed the panel rattle yet.
Some people find simply disconnecting the center channel speaker allows for an improvement in sound. The driver Porsche uses in this location is rather poor.

Interesting. I wonder if it's being masked by road and/or exhaust noise?

Seems like it's related to the initial power coming on when opening a door and then it quietens down. It's odd. It may still be slightly present when driving but I can't really tell; it's independent of audio volume as well.
Any feedback on the door woofer replacement packages in 958.1? I'm just seeing this and very interested. I want to replace the door woofers which seem to make most of the bass, but are giving some distortion or crackle at higher volume. I want to keep the rest of the stock Bose system, amp and all, for now. I've been thinking of replacing the trunk subwoofer speaker with a better one, but the front door woofers are an odd size. Drop in solution with all else factory would be wonderful!
It is too bad that rennspec stopped making these parts as they are quite nice. I recently installed replacement front door speakers using their adaptors and the results vs the stock PCM non-bose system are excellent. If you are on the fence about doing this in the future, you might pick up the adaptors from their remaining stock on ebay.
I went with the Audison AP8 woofers (require rennspec or custom 8" woofer adapter+extension), Audison Voce AV3 midrange (require 3" adapter, NLA), and Audison AP1 tweeters (no adapters required). The clarity in the upper ranges is dramatically improved, and the accuracy and depth of the bass is as well. The speakers I pulled out were laughably lightweight and I'd be surprised if they cost more than $10 a piece.
Thanks for pointing out, I picked up a set of the 8" woofer adapters on Ebay as well, shipping & import tax to EU added another 50$ to the bill however. Did you need the Rennspec wire adapters as well (installation on a Bose system)?
As I managed to pick up a set of Audison AP-8 for a good price, I plan to do the door speaker upgrade on my 958.1 from the Bose system:
1thenaton1, could you tell me what parts - apart form Rennspec 8" door speaker adapters - you did need for the upgrade, one needs also the Rennspec 8" woofer extension when using the Audison AP-8 speaker?
Also, the Bose speaker grill on the door still fits fine after your upgrade to the Audison AP-8 with the Rennspec woofer extension?
Thanks for any feedback!

For the AP8s you will need the woofer extension as well as the 8" adaptor. The wiring is quite simple, an adaptor is not required but could make it easier. Speakers are just +/-, two wires. The stock speakers had + on the side of the connector with a tab. Use a wire stripper like these shorturl.at/kvO09 to expose a short length of the speaker wire just ahead of the stock connector. Use ~6" of speaker wire with one end connected to the new speaker and splice in to the stock wiring. Wrap w tape and you're set. If you zoom in on the pic I posted you can see this connection and that the stock connector (white) remains unplugged.
