Driving home at the end of a 350 mile trip, I got stuck in stop and go traffic for the last 30 miles. Taking my foot off the gas to slow down I would feel a thump as I approached a stop. Starting up again there would be a smaller thump in 2nd gear and then a 2-3 of slight thumps that I originally mistook for rolling over expansion joins in the road. Except it occurred every time I accelerated from a stop. I'm going to call the dealer today and have them take a look (I'm at the 60,000 service point as well). Does this sound like a transfer case issue or something else?
Brought may car to the dealer (Porsche fo Fairfield, CT). I told them the symptoms. Svc tech said they have so many coming in they can easily diagnose. From a stop they turn wheel all way to left or right and then accelerate a bit hard - if car hops/slips, it indicates transfer case issue. They confirmed mine needs to be replaced. There are no parts in the USA right now. Coming over from Germany in a couple of weeks and they will call me to bring my car back in and get the work done under warranty.
I had my transfer case replaced under CPO warranty about 5 months ago...then a few weeks ago I received a letter with an extended warranty on the transfer case...which made me feel better. My TA said this was so common...he diagnosed with telling him how it drove., like you described No other questions...no fuss no muss...replaced it in a few days.

Before I even read the first post I was gonna reply YES.
Glad they're covering you without having a case handy. I guess I just got the last one yesterday. jk Only took a day and a half to get one for me. Made it sound like they had plenty available.

I should just go and check mine before the 2021 extended warranty is up on it.

My 2011 has the same symptoms and when I described it to the service advisor I was told it was very likely the transfer case.
A few days later they called an told me it wasn't the transfer case that it was the rear driveshaft and it would be $2400 to fix.
I declined for now as they told me I would have to replace the entire rear driveshaft as the bearing itself was not replaceable, does anyone have any similar issues with this failing or input?

If it is the rear driveshaft - it will be the very first one reported on Rennlist (and any other Cayenne forum I've been on.) This isn't the 955/957 series where the shaft is almost predicted to fail.

That would explain why I can't find much info on the issue.
94k miles on the clock and I'm really struggling to even find part numbers. Should I just go to another dealer for a second opinion?

I just got under the car to check it out. The driveshaft has very minimal play but nothing that would cause concern.
Also,
The transfer case is brand new, even has a stamp that says 2020. I think they tried to take me for a ride and I'm not down with it. Stinks because I had a lot of respect for that place.

Experienced nearly this exact same situation, down to the mileage (Chicago to Springfield and back). I have noticed, but have downplayed, a thumping and grinding sensation that I've experienced. The car has only 33k miles. Does anyone know how long it takes a dealer to do a transfer case?

When I had my transfer case replaced it took them about 3 days max and that included having the parts shipped in. So not long at all. That was about a year ago and no more problems.
