Default P0087 Fuel High Pressure too low

I was slowing down today and before it stopped I felt engine will stall. I got diesel glow plug symbol flashing and then triggered check engine light.

I pulled the codes and got the following:

P0087 Fuel High Pressure too low
00537F Fault Code Not Defined

Anyone experienced this ?

Also is this covered under dieselgate warranty? My car is 2013 CD with 102,000 Miles

High pressure fuel pump failure is not uncommon on the Diesels.

I believe this should be covered as part of diesel gate as fueling should be part of the engine/emissions systems.

Regarding fuel pumps, I have not seen really any chatter on the HP fuel pump on the diesels being an issue. On gas 911 yeah sure... but the diesel pressures and pump are a whole different beast.

Ok thanks I also doubt it is a fuel pump issue as I really cannot find any post online regarding this fault code with Cayenne Diesel OR VW TDI with v6 engine. There is one member here got this error code but ended up being injector #3 after clearing the code and another code showed up. So I suspect not many (if any) had fuel pump issues on their Cayenne Diesel.

I keep clearing the code but I either get Fuel pressure too high or too low. No other codes.

I will call my local dealership and ask.

Yes it is resolved. Visit a dealership for HPFP replacement. It is not common problem but I have seen it report by another person as well.

I replaced my high pressure fuel pump last year. Not a hard job at all. Pump is pricy though.

I haven't replaced one - but I've looked at one close up. I believe the pump for the V8 Cayenne is specific to the Porsche. The V6 may well cross-over to a VW part since the V6 is basically a VW engine. Probably also true on the diesel engines.

There are two types of failures for diesel owners. If your pump is still working, but giving off codes then you might get away with a removal and replacement of the HPFP. The other kind is much more invasive and of course, expensive--catastrophic failure with internal parts breaking inside your fuel system. In the latter case, your entire fuel line system must be evacuated of shards of metal from the failed HPFP.

There are lots of experiences for Touareg TDI owners going through the latter type of failure.

If you get codes related to your HPFP, please contact your dealership immediately (also means = don't drive it until you get it checked out).

Older thread I know, but just go the call about my 2014 Cayenne Diesel. It shut down while driving and had to be towed to dealership.

High Pressure Fuel pump failed and metal found in fuel system. Parts alone are over $22K! Good thing it is CPO. I hope it will be covered.

Vehicle bought as CPO one year ago with 108K miles. Now has just over 133,000 (If I remember correctly)

I'll post up once I get final determination from dealer on all charges and to let everyone know of CPO was honored (I have no reason to think Porsche will not honor that).

It will be placed for sale after repaired made as I no longer drive long distances I was using it for (650 mile weekly round trips in Texas).

I just got word Friday that Porsche CPO will warranty the repair!

I am a firm believer in Porsche CPO now so more than ever. I've always trusted them, but this reaffirms they have the best CPO warrantyt out there.

They have paid for an engine out oil leak fix, the second hand falling off my clock, and now this. Let's face it, I never would have repaired that oil seeping as it was minimal, but it just goes to show how strong the coverage is.

I’m having a HPFP replaced on my 15 CD under dieselgate warranty. Car got the glow plug light then a check engine light. Ran without issues and the CEL went away after more driving and a few starts over a few days. 100k miles on it

Is the stall out and tow with HPFP failure relative to metals in the fuel system? I’m curious of this and will inquired
