Default Tow package

My cayenne 2012 S has the tow hitch on it, I purchased this vehicle used so are they supposed to come with the wiring harnesses and if so where are they stored?

I installed a factory hitch on my '14 CTT. There were holes sealed with rubber gaskets on the passenger side where you passed the hitch harness through to connect with the modules which are also on the passenger side.

With the Tahoe I purchased years ago it came with a wiring harness and plug for RV or smaller trailer (everything came with the vehicle from GM) so I guess with the Cayenne I have to purchase the wiring harness & parts to do a connection. I think one site had about $70 worth parts to do this. I was just hoping a warning harness was included and such was stored somewhere hidden like with spare tire area.

Porsche doesn't install the 7 pin plug. Look for a plate next to the hitch. If there is not a cover then you need to install https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU955TPLUG.html. I had the same issue with my GTS. Original owner must never had towed. Many dealers install as new car prep but not all.

Look for another tow hitch topic. VW harness cheaper and same identical plugs and wires. If you end up ordering this harness, get it from https://www.germanautopartssource.co...waAihxEALw_wcB It's the cheapest new part I found while looking for this harness. Question is.... if you have no harness, do you have the control module? Are you sure that the towbar that you have under your bumper is actually an OEM or its one of those Curt aftermarket towbars? The aftermarket has a tongue weight about 100+lb less than that of factory one. I don't know the tow rating, but assume it will be less also.

do you happen to know the VW part number? I could never find the harness part number separately from the tow kit they sell

You can check out my post from when I used the VW parts on my aftermarket install.

https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...ing-hitch.html

It doesn't list the harness separate but the price is low enough that it's not an issue. The other alternative is to scour eBay for just the harness.

It looks like the wiring harness was available previously from VW but that's no longer the case unless a dealer just happens to have one in stock. The p/n I ran across was 7L0055204U so you might search for that on eBay.

ETA: There are a couple of new Porsche harnesses on eBay but they're ~$250.

I also recommend searching ebay for things like vw tow harness and other random things. it doesn't always pop up by part number and sometimes sellers list it wrong way, which is where you get the best deals. I got my module for $30.

If you are going have the dealer install the wiring harness, recommended, have them instal a Prodigy brake controller at the same time as it is also wired through the 7 pin plug
