Default 2018 Cayenne. Intermittent error "ACC/Pass not available. Service necessary"

2018 Cayenne. I've gotten this intermittent error "ACC/Pass not available. Service Necessary." Then the cruise control disengages for a while (10 min or so) and starts to work normally..

I know this a part of the Adaptive Cruise Control, and if the "glass globe" in the grill gets obscured this error can happen,. However, the last two times this happened were on clear days. No obstruction.

Bizarre?

Dr G7 - welcome to the forum.

It needs calibration. Since you're under warranty hand it over to the dealer.

Had this happen on my 2011 CTT. The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system is either out of calibration or a component is damaged. It requires a trip to the dealer and a couple of hours service with their system. It has to be done at a P dealer, but since yours is a 2018 I assume you’re headed there anyway.

Mine has always done this. A calibration did not help. I find it does it most often when you first start the car and it's parked in front of a solid object (like nose up to a building), and that it clears almost immediately when driving away. I've had it happen only twice while actually driving, each time on the highway for about 3 minutes. Really sucks though because you don't lose adaptive cruise control, you lose cruise control. So when it fails you get nothing at all.

I've never seen that message on my Sand White 2011 Cayenne Turbo (No PDCC, PTV+ or PCCB)..

I have seen adaptive turned off because of a snow buildup on the sensor. That actually shouldn't happen since the eyeball is heated to prevent that, but in one instance it did disable the adaptive but left the normal cruise control ability on.

That is the most disturbing part...of completely loosing cruise control. I know on the occasions when it happened to me (twice) while fiddling with the cruise, I was also exceeding the speed limit. Luckily they're no cops around.

It cannot be a calibration issue...it happens randomly. Nothing blocking the view of the eyeball. And no steep inclines (I read in a Macan manual that steep inclines can disengage ACC.)

Cruise control up or down extreme grades? I can't imagine what kind of steep incline it would be that would cause ACC to disengage, or that I'd ever use ACC in conditions beyond reasonable grade angles.

The ACC in my '17 GTS has never had issues. Not underway, not starting while nose-in right against a wall, not during excessive amounts of rain or snow. The one time I do recall getting some sort of message was after it had been parked in a snowy lot and a lot of slush splashed up and over the ACC camera sensor. There was a crusted layer frozen on it. I left it there and let the adjacent engine heat eventually allow it to fall off.

Mine is not caused by snow nor inclines...I live in sunny, flat florida.

I just did a 15 hour road trip; snow/ice packed on the sensor will disable the all cruise control functionality including PAS. Porsche should have designed it so it would revert to an "old-fashioned" cruise control (with no radar) when the sensor has a problem instead of disabling the whole darn system... my poor right leg as I had two hours of doing it without cruise control... Fortunately I can't remember what it was like with spring-loaded mechanical throttle linkages with no cruise control!!!

this was enough ice to disable it the first time:

It does have a heater on it.. supposed to prevent it from icing up, but I guess in heavy enough snow...

Went to the dealer. They found nothing wrong. They also told me this ACC intermittent failure is not known to Porsche.

Any others on this forum with ACC failures? The biggest challenge is that when the ACC fails, the regular cruise is also disabled. While I'm filling with this switch, who knows, I may even exceed the speed limit.
