I would go with the new V6T.
It is a great engine to start with (shared with many Audis), with great tuning potential (you can do 430-450 crank hp easily and safely). It has a better mileage PLUS you would get a facelifted car (2014-2018 vs 2010-2013).
The V8 probably sounds better.

personally I’m a V8 fan. I agree the new model looks attractive (not the 2019 because the back looks like a Durango or Lincoln which reminds me of the Chris Bangle designed Bimmers that look like a Hyundai from the back) but the V8 sound is always better than a V6.

No turbo lag with the V8. Not that the V6TT is laggy... but the power delivery of the V8 is noticeably more "immediate". Heck, even the base V6 (non turbo) feels more immediately responsive than the V6TT. Once the power comes up it's different though.

Interesting, thanks guys. Currently I have a 957 V8 and I adore that engine, sounds awesome, super reliable and pulls like an ox, so I am biased. But the goal here is to update and I feel like going to a 2013 just to keep the V8 is a half measure as the rest of the car has been updated further in the 2016-17s. I just feel that the V6 TT will be a disappointment

The torque of the V6TT is really nice, but the price you pay is a bit of turbo lag. I am personally not a fan of turbo+automatic and yet I pulled the trigger on this one.
I think I'd enjoy driving the V8 more in daily use, but the power of the v6 at full tilt is pretty nice.
Also, can someone say a bit more about what is shared w/Audi? Which audi has this engine? None that I'm aware of...

I stand corrected. For whatever reason, I though the Cayenne S has the 2,995 cc engine, but it is 3,604 cc one. It is seems to be Porsche specific.
Still, 20 more hp, 50 more Nm, 0.4s faster 0-100km/h times, better mileage AND a facelifted car. I would get it for the latter itself (pre FL 958 owner here). Cayenne S with LED headlights looks killer.

I also have the Audi S5 V8 4.2FSI, which was later upgraded with 3.0 TFS engine. As much as I enjoy the V8 soundtrack, I wish I had the V6T for the reasons I've mentioned.

- plenty of power, and torque builds nicely and predictably
- brakes are solid
- air suspension is awesome and controlling things
I’ve towed heavy utility trailers, car trailers (u-haul) with old trucks on them, etc. I think the car trailer plus truck was nearing 6k lbs. Other than needing to take it easy and recognize how heavy the load is, the Cayenne behaved incredibly well. The torque of the v6tt is really quite nice. I know it isn’t quite as strong as diesel, but no slouch. Far better than my previous tow rigs (Lexus gx470, 4Runner, etc.).

I'm in a similar boat. Initially I thought I wanted the V8 so I restricted my search to '13-'14 models, but then I took a face lifted 2015 S V6TT for a spin and really liked it. I currently have a 955 V8 and I was worried that I won't like the V6, but the 958 V6 is lighter, has more power and as long as you can live without the V8 sound, I think overall it is a better choice.

I just switched from a 2011 S with V8 to a GTS w V6 (3.6). I wanted air suspension which is hard to find on the S.
Both car car have the same problem, in normal setting the transmission is programmed to save fuel so waits too long to downshift. I always drove the S in sport settings. The new GTS I drive in normal but use paddles to downshift as it will be in 8th gear at 40-45mph. The sport setting just sips fuel like tomorrow in the GTS. I towed to with the S and always used sport setting when towing. Less gear hunting. My opinion is, there is not too much difference in the engine to be the determinate factor, look for other options that are your must haves. It is the transmisssion that is the Achilles heel for the car.

Thought I'd bump this thread back up to see how the V8TT vs the V6TT compare now that more time has passed. I'm planning on picking up a CTT this year but one thing I could not find much information on is the reliability of the V6TT? Lots of data on the V8 but less so on the V6.
I plan to test drive both to see what feels better as that part of the decision is always more subjective.
