Default Tune or Warranty?

Happiness or Peace of Mind.....Just bought a 2011 CTT with 69k miles. Was a CPO until mid of last year. Well taken care of by a Porsche enthusiast. Porsche dealer said no issues, and all recalls complete and transfer case replaced recently. So.... I am looking at a GIAC tune plus a secondary cat delete pipe. The tune and the pipe will cost me about 3500 installed. The warranty info is below. Good coverage and price is not bad. I am looking at the 2 year option. Cannot have anything that will affect the performance of the vehicle, otherwise it will void the warranty.

Welcome to the 958 forum! One question - who is providing this warranty and who would you be buying it from?

As far as performance vs warranty - I'd suggest trying out the Cayenne for a few days. I've found the turbo has adequate power for the USA..

Here are some things to consider re. extended warranties:

- Most of them (maybe all of them) contain language that limits the total cash payments the warranty company has to make. Most of the time this limit will be equal to what you paid for the vehicle. So if you pay $5000 for a 3-year warranty and paid $35,000 for the vehicle, the warranty company's maximum out of pocket for your warranty coverage to be used up would be $35,000. But check policy language. They may limit their liability in some other way they don't come right out and tell you.
- Is the warranty renewable or extendable and if so, what happens to the cost of the warranty?
- How long has the warranty company been in business... one of their chief tactics (besides making everything take way too long if there is any dispute over coverage or cost)? One of the ways car warranty companies make money is to go out of business with no announcement so you are left with some portion of your policy becoming useless.
- Who decides whether you use a Porsche part or aftermarket part? This could be a huge hassle when they insist on using a $400 Chinese clone part instead of a $650 legitimate part from another supplier or a $1300 part from Porsche. Sometimes it may not matter what part is used, but sometimes it could be a huge deal.
- What to other people who have purchased car warranties from the same warranty company have to say about their experience? (online reviews, do they get the runaround? do they annoy repair shops to the point the shop doesn't want to work with them? do they slow-down repairs while waiting for call-backs or decisions? how do they deal with disputes?

Failure to do that level of research could mean a very unhappy extended warranty experience. You should also watch out for a shop that might let-slip that you don't have secondary cats installed and that the engine computer is running a non-factory tuning curve. If they let that info get to the warranty company, you could find yourself in breach with no recourse and no refund.
