I have no idea what would cause this but if it was happening to me I would:

1. Clean out the cowl area. Maybe debris has hindered the airflow.
2. Cycle the air flow route. Turn on the defrost vent then face vents then floor vents. Then turn them all on, then see if it's possible to turn them all off. Mabe one of the vents is not opening or closing all the way creating a situation where a whistle can emanating from.
3. Turn off, or on the vent that is on top of the dash. Not the defroster but that center vent where your clock/compass is.
4. Report back here.

Is this normal?
My '17 made no such noises, so I don't think it's 'normal'.

Wonder if something is caught in the cabin air filter?

It appears to be a 958.1 problem, I also have the same whistle that goes away when re circulation is turned on. I've conditioned seals, checked for leaks, folder the mirrors at speed, nothing makes a difference other than the re-circ. Not sure what that is about but it appears to be fairly common.

Yea, mine started doing this a week ago or so and noticed it again last night. Seems to be very dependent on what setting my system is in and I can stop it or make it inaudible by playing with the system a little. Traffic was heavy so I just let it be again but will try to take a county drive and see what happens.
