Default Gas vs Diesel? Which to Buy

I started off looking for a diesel for the torque, fuel mileage, and diesel reliability. I have found a 2013 diesel at a great price with 58,000 miles. This diesel is in great condition, but 58,000 miles is somewhat high for me, yet the price is lower than anything out there, including diesels at higher mileages. However, I decided to look at at non-diesels, and they are cheaper. I have choices....two 2014 gas burners with upper 30,000's for $5,000 more. One in particular is a good deal (color I want, in good shape, and comfort plus package), but it did have a quarter panel replaced from an accident. The damage was the panel, and no structural or frame. The diesels are really expensive. Any suggestions?
What would you do. I am open and eager to hear all suggestions and opinions.

ps I also found a 2013 Cayenne S with 41,000 miles for $3,000 more than the 2013 58,000 mile diesel.

Don’t forget to figure in average fuel costs when comparing diesel vs gas based on your yearly mileage. This can make a big difference in your monthly expenses. Diesel was a no brainer for me. Also, virtually every diesel is still under CPO and/or the emissions warranty which covers almost the entire engine and related systems, so you won’t have to budget for repairs for awhile. Lots of diesels on the market since the fix was done.

For me, the only two Cayenne models I'd buy are the diesel or the turbo.

The diesel performs better, is more reliable and has a better warranty than the S.

The Turbo is nutty fast.

I had a 955 Turbo and now have a diesel, I'm really happy with the diesel

The petrol is a better choice. More environmentally friendly, greater longevity, and better sounding.

Diesel.

I may be a bit biased... I have 2 of 'em.

Find a diesel at a dealer that's CPO'd and you'll get 6 years (from in service date) and unlimited miles on the warranty.

Ervin. Petrol better sounding, yes. Greater longevity, no way, especially compared to the diesel. Gotta figure the EPA is happy with the fix Porsche did so environmentally they're a wash...

I'd love a CPO, but Porsche won't CPO diesels. If you buy a new one from a dealer, regardless of year...15 or 16, you get a six year warranty. If you buy used one anywhere, there is a 6 year 120,000 mile warranty on most diesel and drive train components.

??????
The six year for 15 16 new diesels is the same as if buying CPO. That is Porsche gives you two more years than a normal new warranty.

For buying used 13 14, you get the additional two years automatically and it is transferred to anyone, even if you buy it used from non Porsche dealer. In addition there is also the limited 10 years (from in service date) power train warranty if your CD has the fix done

Keep in mind that a 60K service at the dealer is $$$...

Diesel, no question with its amazing fuel economy and torque. I've had BMW 335D, X5D and now Cayenne diesel, which is our favorite of all. Although, friend that bought our X5D tuned with Malone stage 2 and that may sway my rating a bit.

I'm on my 2nd TDI. First was a Touareg and if the buyback did not happen, I'd still have it.

I loved it so much I got a 2016 diesel.

If I did not tow, care about MPG, and needed the size of the Cayenne I'd have gotten a 2015+ Cayenne S and not a diesel.

I do love the diesel though.

They absolutely CPO diesels. My '15 was purchased from my dealer, after the previous owner did the fix (and collected the money! lol) and it's CPO'd. What does that mean? I have the same 6 year warranty as the "courtesy" warranty Porsche gave all diesels, but now with no mileage limit.

Plus the settlement 10 year/120K partial drivetrain warranty.

But bottom line is they absolutely will certify used diesels. If they meet certification requirements, of course. If you have a dealer telling you they won't, I'd suspect the vehicle in question has had some other issues and/or damage, so they can't certify it.

I would take a diesel over the base V6. It's the reason I purchased the 2012 Touareg over a Cayenne. The diesel handles the weight of the vehicle much better than the base gas V6. I am still mad at VW for its stupidity. I really wanted to special order a diesel Cayenne to replace the Touareg.

The diesel is a strong motor with many reporting high miles over time. The areas of concern are around the pollution controls especially the adblue systems. The extended warranty should have those covered.

Test drive both and you will see the difference.

My 2015 was CPO'd on top of the courtesy 6y warranty - good for 8 years and unlimited miles. So yes, some dealers absolutely will CPO them.

I would also really not even consider the base V6 gas over the diesel. I'm with doc above.... diesel or Turbo.

Do you have paperwork explaining that? My dealer aid it's an overlay, not a tack on.
