Although Rotella is a great oil for most diesels IN GENERAL, it is definitely NOT a good oil for your Cayenne Diesel!!

Here's the issue: The VW 507.00 specification is a very specific oil that is VERY low in SAPS (Sulpated Ash, Phosphorous Sulphur). A low SAPS oil is absolutely essential to prevent failure of the DPF (diesel particulate filter) in the CD. Here is an explanation regarding the need to use low SAPS oils:

My personal preference is Liqui Moly, and I have had excellent results, proven over 212,000 miles in 2 CDs using oil analysis. Brand is not as important as using ONLY that VW 507.00 spec!

And STAY WAY AWAY from any aftermarket oil additives - you will truly un-balance a carefully-crafted blend that the oil manufacturer created and certified to meet its specifications. Politely disregard advice from "experts" that absolutely LOVE their Marvel Mystery Oil, SeaFoam, etc. (Sorry, Jake. Professional though you definitely are, you have only given anecdotal reports of how MMO works without the science to back it up.)

In city driving: Change at 3,000 miles. Highway mostly: 5,000 miles. And use a quality FUEL additive like PowerService Diesel Kleen with each fillup of US or Mexican diesel fuel - your pump and injectors will thank you with silence and long operational life.

Enjoy your CD - IMHO it is one of the best cars you can buy. Give her clean fuel, clean air, change her oil frequently, use a good diesel fuel additive if in the US or Mexico, and she will love you back!

Are there recommendations to change the oil in a diesel more often if it is not driven the 5000k miles as recommended. Say you only drive 1 or 2 thousand miles in 6 or 7 months after an oil change, should you change the oil or wait until 5k miles? A dealer recommends 6 month change if not driven 5k miles.

I've been using Motul 8100 X-Clean+ 5W30

It's Porsche C30 and VW 504 00/507 00

Available in 5L jugs from Amazon that have a nice built-in flexible spout, no funnel needed.

Although I am not one to often agree with the "service advisor" (i.e. highly trained salesperson) at the stealership, they are correct about the 6-month timeout on oil in a diesel. Problem in most areas is internal corrosion that can occur due to production of acid in the crankcase oil, and the need to periodically remove this as the anti-corrosion additives in the oil become depleted.

Oil is CHEAP. Porsche engines are EXPENSIVE. Just learn to change your oil yourself: Materials cost about $80 per change vs $420 at the stealership. Takes about 30 minutes if you are as slow as I am. Your CD will thank you!!

Have been using M1 5w30 ESP for mine but Walmart by me is now carrying M1 0w30 ESP in 5 gal jugs, about $12 cheaper each than the 5w30 I've been buying, am in a warm southern state, any reason I shouldn't go with the 0w30?

I'd stick with 5-30 recommendation or go to higher rather than lower (10-30?) warm weather you don't want thin oil

i live and operate in an extremely hot climate (Sonoran desert). Average high temps here are 100-109 F and I have no concerns about low temperature start/run. The HT/HS is critical when engine temps are at their extremes, especially with the turbochargers. I use LiquiMoly 4200 which is a 5W-30 (507.00) oil - I would prefer a higher viscosity oil here due to the extreme temperatures, but I cannot find any 507.00 spec oil >5W-30.

The DPF works pretty well, but you will severely shorten its life by running a non- 507.00 oil due to SAPS (ash) content.

I've recently switched to the Valvoline European Vehicle XL-III oil. C30 compliant, cheaper than Mobile 1.

No issues with it so far (on 2nd oil fill).

Order directly from Valvoline when they have sales or wally world otherwise.
