Auto on light switch - is it an active switch?

Yes! I thought it was my garage changing it when it happened to me but then it happened all by myself, I think it's related to low battery voltage as I haven't had it occur since the battery was replaced.

I'm really glad to hear I'm not the only one who questions their sanity regarding that switch. I know sometimes I mash my knee into that location getting in the car, but other times I was absolutely sure it is moving on its own. If I ever have the dash apart in that area I'm going to see if there is some mechanism to allow the switch to move itself.

It’s happened on mine 4 or 5 times and I have accused my wife of turning it instead of the ignition! as she can’t see either from the seating position. But then again it hasn’t happened since I pointed it out.

I’ve had numerous “discussions” with my wife and it turns out it was me swinging my knee over when getting in. Truth be known its a bad design and should either be a recessed switch or the lower part should be tapered so its not reachable with one’s knee. Several times I have found myself driving with just my DRLs at dusk with no taillights. Kinda fits in the same category as a stop/start system that shuts off at 4km./hr. before you actually are stopped!

Happens to me all the time as well. My wife rarely drives the Cayenne so no easy place to point fingers
I thought there was a ghost in the machine but finally just had to accept it was me and my knee.

I've never had it suddenly end up in anything other than the straight-up Auto position.
My wife had to drive my 958 for the past two months, and more than once the automatic headlight switch was in the wrong position. She was using keyless, with the fob in her pocket/purse. So, no dangling keys. She has no recollection of touching the switch at all and I've no reason not to believe her. That and any smart husband would know to pick just about anything else to argue about.

THis thread went exactly as I thought it would haha. For a second there so many people were reporting the same problem I though there may actually be a motor built in and it worked off some memory function or something. Almost had me! hahah

I started this thread a few years ago and this still happens with my CD. How many times have you bumped your knee on something and didn’t feel it? I’m thinking that if my knee is hitting the switch that many times I would have felt it at least once over the years. Maybe a hard door slam? My CD has had several unexplained electrical gremlins that still persist. My cruise control occasionally just stops working while driving with the control on and active. Just quits and it won’t turn back on until I restart the engine and then it is in the “on” condition like nothing ever happened. Several videos of this and PCNA has no idea what’s wrong. My PCM randomly reboots while I am driving sometimes. Screen goes blank then goes through the start-up sequence. Several times I have looked down and the blind spot warning system is off. That button might be easy to hit accidentally, but I almost never adjust my mirrors. There were many other radio/volume issues. They replaced the battery once and the issues stopped for about a year. The PCM has been replaced twice, but issues persist so I think it is an electrical issue unrelated to the PCM. So far it’s been just an annoyance occasionally so I just learn to live with it. The CD has been super other than that.
