Default Odd sound / mild vibration coasting

Happy New Year to All !! Found the wife a nicely optioned 2014 Cayenne GTS with 52K back in June, our first Cayenne and it's been great for 7K miles of our ownership. Recently had a 'squeaking' fan motor, but it was pretty easily remedied by cleaning out the motor and applying a little spray grease. Based on others experience, I expect this will need to be replaced in the next months/year, we'll see.

Given this isn't my primary driver, my experience is limited by my personal drive time. However, I have noticed an 'odd' sound and 'feeling' upon release of the accelerator pedal (right after getting off the gas) while the vehicle is 'coasting'. It almost sounds like there is a 'drag' on the vehicle that's not usual, at least based on my experiences. This happens before brakes are applied, just after letting off the gas, while coasting. Thought it might be tires (on the 21'' turbo style wheels), but recently changed over to a winter setup with new rubber. Same sound / feel. I do not feel like this has anything to do with the Transfer Case, but I did want to mention that I changed the fluid (twice) in the TC upon reading all of the feedback on rennlist. Acceleration is smooth, no turning or crackling issues (before or after the fluid change).

Curious if anyone can relate to this issue or have a similar feel when they decelerate? Any thoughts on the topic?

'13 GTS here..

We have had ours for almost a year and 11,000 miles

I do experience the same thing you are describing. I am starting to think its normal. At almost any speed, allowing the car to coast results in noticeable scrub of speed

Also, when starting out for first drive of the day, putting the car in drive after reversing from drive way, results in a slight hesitation followed by a slight jerk forward. Been to Porsche dealer twice and master Mechanic claims its normal.
He claims its the result of the beefy traditional transmission (shared by Turbo and Turbo S). We were an Audi family for 15 years and there IS something familiar about the transmission characteristics.

It could be transfer case acting up so we will see.

Keep us posted

If it the black GTS out of Buick dealer in Milwaukee?

I test drove it this summer and heard the exact thing you described. Told the seller about it and they claimed to had checkout by Porsche and came back as everything is fine.
I drove other GTSs and bought a different one - none are making any noise when you let off gas

No, it wasn't that one. I wouldn't say it's all that noticeable to the 'normal' driver. My wife can't hear it or even understand what I'm sensing. My son can hear it, and although faint, is consistent. It's not getting any louder, but just doesn't seem normal.

You might change the front and rear differential fluids. Be sure to use the correct fluid if you have a limited slip differential. How is the drive shaft center bearing? Good luck.

For sure it's not normal - in few GTSs that I checked out only 1 was doing it and it is indeed hard to notice. Try following R553's suggestion and replace diffs fluid

Thanks for the suggestions. Curious how to check the drive shaft bearing? What am I looking for?

For the starters you could try this drive shaft thread although it is from 955: https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...with-pics.html

And ultimately: http://coloradodriveshaft.com/porsche_cayenne.htm

Hi,

I can sometimes hear a mild rubbing/grinding sound when coasting or low speed.
Did anyone find out what caused their please?

Thanks

Do you have PTV+ as an option?

hi vibration is gone, just a rubbing sound at 15-20mph

front brakes and pads were done by previous owner last year, only 1k miles ago.
