I replaced mine ... it's pretty easy.
I think you have to replace whole thing on 958.
Yeah, have to agree that its pretty easy - other than a bit of weird bending to get into the passenger footwell!
Seems to be a part that does fail (take a look on Ebay for salvage parts) but the unit is a complete one. Just buy one (from Ebay or brand new from many online sellers - but get a reputable part though) and replace it yourself, its not difficult and saves a trip to the specialist or Porsche dealer. Its really not tough to do.
Just had my blower motor replaced at the dealer on my 958.2. Sx's were weak air flow, even at the "strong" setting. Dealer didn't mention any clogged drain plugs, but hopefully this will have to only be replaced once.
just swapped out the blower motor in my 2012 cayenne. The fan/defrost stopped working at 120k miles and found this thread. Bought a replacement motor off Pelican. There is also a few youtube videos on 1st gen cayennes and this was fairly similar but not exactly the same.
This DIY was super helpful and a few more observations:
-screws are T20.
-the screws that are mounted vertically are 7/32". I think I removed 9 of them in total. There are 3 that mount to a bracket beneath the blower motor that keep the motor in place. If you remove the bottom bracket, then the motor comes out nicely.
According to my All Data, removal of the vents and glove box are not necessary.
Edit, just removed my blower and all that had to be removed before the blower is the cover under the glove and the vent tube. The video should not be stickied.
on that note, my blower motor isn’t blowing as strong as it once used to. I pulled the motor, pulled off the back cover and tapped it on the ground and all this powder came out. Looks like the motor is on it’s way out. I’m going to clean it and reinstall but will
order another one today.

Can you change the cabin filter without removing glove box also? It’s been a while since I did my swap out, but I remember I did the filter at the same time, and that having the glove box removed made getting to some of the screws easier.
Cabin filter and glove box both easy to remove without the glove box removed. I don't actually see how it would be easier to do with the glove box off as the process to remove the glovebox is more time consuming than the filter change itself.

BTW RAudi- I got my blower motor unit from RockAuto for $119. Shipped was around $140. Super cheap, cheaper than a previous part number they had up, and its working flawlessly for the last 8 months.
Just went through this process on Saturday. Start to finish was about two hours, but I did follow the video and removed the glove box. I can see how it can be done without removal and would shave half the time off, if not more. That said, for a first run at this project, I didn't mind have more room and more visibility. New blower motor via Rock Auto (VDO PM4090) and the HVAC is blowing strong and consistently.
I know that this is an old thread, but I’ve got the same issue with my 958. Water in the footwell after a car wash and now my blower motor is out. It is a recurring problem that was previously resolved for a long time after cleaning out the corrosion in the blower connector. In the past, the blower usually would come back on after everything dried out — I’m hoping for that this time as well (fingers crossed).
I’ve cleaned both the cowl and AC drains and didn’t find any issues there. Does anyone know where the sunroof (non-panoramic) drains are on the front passenger side?
