Odd Electrical Issue - Volt Gauge Pinned at 8, No Turnsignal Indicators
Hi All,
Had an odd issue with my 2004 Cayenne S. I was driving it the other day and notices that I had no turn signal indicators. Turn signal was on, just no dash light. Same thing with the hazards. The button blinked but no indication on the dash (the green arrows).
At the same time I realized the volt gauge was pinned to 8. I turned off the rest of the electric running in the car, fearing that either the battery or the alternator was going.
Drove the five miles home. I kept the car running and put a multimeter at the jumping posts in the engine compartment. It was showing 14v, so looks like the alternator is charging.
I shut off the car expecting it to not start again. It started right up, but the symptoms were still there. Turned it off, started it again 5 minutes later and no issues.
Drove it today 20 miles and no issues. Any clue what could have caused this? Should I keep digging, or just a random 955 gremlin?
BTW, the battery is only 4 months old (although I know that doesn't really mean anything).

Good job - you fixed it
Any water under the carpets or could possibly be a loose ground, but if it's not wetness, it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot if not exhibiting the symptoms at the time.

could be a bad ground somewhere in a related circuit... not a common issue in areas with mild climate, but increasing in liklihood the worse the weather has been that the car was exposed to... and road salt raises the liklihood even more.

Thanks for the comments. I had the water in the drivers footwell a few years ago, and had the fun of not being able to get it into gear. Had some fun repairing those bad wires.
I once in a while get a little bit of water dripping down the passenger footwell after rain. Only happens once in a while, guess it has something to do with how the wind is blowing. Maybe I tear that part of the interior out and see what's doing.
