Default Tire Recommendation Please

Dear Board,

I'm based overseas in a hot climate with a lot of rain at times....as in tropical downpours that feel more like a wave hitting you form overhead than rain. Temperature is usually 80-90 F. It is never cold here.

I'm currently running Michelin Latitudes and these now are due for a change. The choices for tires are limited here, and expensive. I can find Latitudes, but at a very high cost. There are also Scorpion Verdes and Goodyear Eagle F1s. Has anyone tried to run the F1s? I'm thinking of these due to the warm weather here and the cost being half of the Latitudes (at least that's the difference here).

Thank you in advance for your advice!

F1 if they are run flats ride horrible. My comment is based on a friends Corvette. I and another friend just bought the Verde's . Very happy in all respects. You need to insure they are the Scorpion Verde All Season Plus. You need the plus version much better reviews than the non plus.

Cannot get scorpions. The F1s are not runflats. Teh Verdes are not the All Season Plus.

Go with Verdes. They are very good all-around tires.

Cheer,

Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 run at 45psi. Great 40k tire with insane wet grip.

All summer-only tires will be better than all seasons in your climate so forget about all seasons. You need an exceptional aquaplanning resistant tire based on your description.

Where are you? I was running some Hankook ventus S1 for summer and can only recommend them, my wife's pig is running goodyear eagle ls2 and those are very good as well. I'm not even sure what my current summer setup is but since they are quite low on thread, I've got a set of Nokian zLine SUVs on order.
Read up on tire reviews and shop around, there's no need to get N0 or N1 tires. Be careful though, if a tire is good at 205 width, things might get VERY different at 275 or 295 so read revies woth tires as close to your dimensions as possible.

I have the Pirelli Verdes on my cayenne. Last year I was doing 75 mph in a Florida downpour with absolutely no problem. They're a safe tire for wet weather.

At least for the 275 45 20 that I had on my 2012 Touareg TDI, it came with Goodyear LS2. These were an ok tire but didn't last long as at about 23,000 miles, they were worn to about the wear bars. They were good in all conditions and even snow but the replacement cost of them were about $100 higher per tire, even compared to Michelin's which are the most expensive.

I had read a great article on the LS2 and why they are spec'd so often for OEM's and also so expensive. Goodyear took a lot of time and trouble to make a good tire but the cost for another set is just way too high for such a short lasting tire.

I had DWS Extreme Contacts and they were great. Just as quiet, sticky in the dry and wet and also worked very well in the snow. They lasted longer than the LS2's but only by about 10,000 miles. I almost went with the DWS 06 but found that . . . :

. . . The Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus-has one of the highest if not the highest treadwear ratings as well as one of the highest ratings on TireRack so I got a set and when my wife had worn out her LS2's at about 17,000 miles, she also got a set and they have been awesome so far and have been wearing very well. The Verde Plus' for the money are what I'd get again.

I have the Michelin Latitude's on my 16 CD now and as they have around 19,800 on them now, they still look great and I have always liked Michelin's and how long they last. If these tires go another 20,000-which I think they will, I might have to stick with them as they are always great tires.

I'm an located in Nigeria. Shipped my 2012 Cayenne S from Chicago a few years ago. Perfect vehicle for here but sourcing parts (in this case tires) requires some creativity and planning. I have 14k-15k on my Michelin latitudes. Wear bars fine but outside edges are chewed up, probably needs an alignment adjustment. With rainy season coming, i am changing. The "penalty" if you have an issue here can be serious here, so one does a lot of proactive maintenance.

The michelins are available but at 500 each--far too much. The verdes are available but not the "plus" version and the eagles are 250 each. I'm going with the eagles...will let the Board know how it goes. Thanks
