Default Winter Rubber Recommendations for a Cayenne?

Curious to know if anyone has a favorite brand of snow tire for the Cayenne - CPO'd the dealer put on new all seasons but with the snow driving I'm anticipating this winter (and how horrific I-70 can get up there), I'd like a solid set of winter rubber.

The obvious (and fairly expensive) choice being Bridgestone Blizzaks, any other recommendations from the forum?

Thanks - BKCO

I'm a big fan of the Bridgestone Blizzaks. It's the best choice if you want the best grip on snow and ice. Yes, they are soft and squishy compared to a performance tire. But that sacrifice is worth it in my opinion.

I've also used a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D's. They offered better dry weather performance than the Blizzak but not nearly as good in snow and ice.

Thanks Kman - I have had good experiences with them in the past. Only issue being the slightly soft handling and the increased wear from that incredible compound they have.

Right now it's between the Blizzaks (Incredible in the snow/ice), Michelin X-Ice (Above average Snow/Ice and dry traction, wear), and Yokohama Iceguard (Price, snow traction) - each seem to have their strengths.

Starting my third winter on the 19 " Michelin Latitude tour HP all season that came on the the car new.
Cayenne 2015 S. They work great winter and summer here in Minnesota. I put Michelin winter tires on my 2012 911 S but that is a different beast.

I've had Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires on Cayenne S and now on our Macan S. Superb in the snow and very good in the dry (not at all squishy like most winter tires) They are also N rated.

+1 , have them on my SO's 08 CTT. We live on a pretty steep hill and never had any problems.

I have Kumho something on my 06 cts and they work equally well.

I've used the Michelin X-Ice for dedicated winter rubber. Super impressive grip and excellent driving characteristics, though much noisier than the summer rubber I use. (silent, vs detectable) Most importantly for me, they balance out much better than a few other brands I tried, <5lbs road force.

Overall I'd definitely pony up for those again.

If you need a proper winter tire for ice and snow, I'd recommend for example the following, without knowing your tire size (some sizes have more options than other obviously).

Studless:

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2
Michelin Latitude X-Ice2

Studded:

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV
Continental IceContact 2

These are what we call in Europe "Nordic Compound" tires. Very often the winter tires I see recommended on this forum are what we call "Central European Compound", which are made for mostly dry/wet road driving with just the occasional snowy and icy bits - their benefit is obviously better handling in the dry, but poorer when it gets icy.

It really depends on what kind of winter you get, but there are no snow conditions I would drive All-Season tires in.

I've been happy with the Pirelli Scorpion Snow and Ice on three separate Cayennes and one 997.

I am running the new Blizzak DM V2 in 255/50-19 on my '08 CTT. So far I love them. Limited spirited cornering to preserve them on dry roads but otherwise I still drive the car pretty quickly at times. They are a bit squirmy under hard dry braking but I guess there are always some trade offs. They are awesome on the snow and ice.

Happy with the Blizzak DM V1's so far. No question the Nokian Haka R2's are better in the snow but unless you live somewhere the roads are always snow covered you're not going to be happy with them...

I've used Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D, Blizzak DM-V2, and am currently using Hakkapeliitta 8 SUV. In snow, Blizzak > Dunlop. If you're on black ice, you won't like either Blizzak or Dunlop, which is why I'm now running Hakka 8 SUV studded. And above ~10 mph, I don't hear any noise from the studs. I've been a Blizzak fan for 20 years, but problem with Blizzak is that the tread is only good for snow for the 1st half of the tread, after which it's an all-season tread. Hakka is snow tread all the way through. Over Vail pass yesterday in some loose snow, they worked well, but since I've only got 1500 miles on them, the verdict is still out.

This thread needs pictures....

Just had my winter shoes with Pirelli Scorpions (21") installed this week, just in time for the 9" of white stuff we're supposed to be blessed with tomorrow.

Very happy with the way the scorpions feel in the dry - great ride. Will let you know how they perform in the snow after tomorrow.
