958 Cayenne Turbo Headlights won't stay in Auto after shutting car off?
So pardon me if this has been answered before, but i couldn't find anything, and the manual isn't clear on this either.
I'm moving up from a 955 CTT to a 958 CTT (2011). I like to leave my headlights in "auto" mode, so that the low beams come on automatically during rain/dusk etc. But it looks like this setting isn't maintained after i turn the truck off and start it up again. Sure, DRLs come on even with the headlights off, but i want the low beam to come on automatically too.
In my 955, i'd just leave the headlights on the "auto" equivalent, and not have to worry about ever having to turn the headlights on or off.
Is what i've described normal for the 958? If so, any way to retain this setting when the truck shuts down? If not, any issues i should be looking for?
If this is expected behavior, i'm scratching my head as to why. The whole point of the auto function, at least to me, is to not have to bother with turning the headlights on and off - it kinda defeats the purpose if i have to switch the headlights to auto every time i get in the truck.

Hmmn, thanks. That's what i thought at first too, that my knee was knocking it over. So i've been extra careful getting in and out now, and i still see it happening. In any case, will try and make extra sure i don't knock it.

The switch does not move by itself. It moves when people like a car-wash attendant gets in to move the car to the hand-dry lane. Or when the valet at the dealership moves it into the shop.
Other than that - I never touch it.
BTW - since the CTT is new to you - worthwhile reading: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/c...s-failure.html

Not the greatest design in the world though if it's this easy to switch it off.

Very cool that WC-22 has been done. Aside from that, and perhaps the transfer cases, the model seems fairly bulletproof. If you have the service records, also make sure that around 2013 or so - the crankcase vent assembly was replaced. There was a defect in the design that made the turbos oil guzzlers. The former owner of mine was at the dealer every 500 miles getting the oil topped off before that service campaign was completed. Once the vent assembly was replaced it dropped to every 2,000 miles or so. Now with 70,000 miles on it (and a top-end rebuild on the engine) - it appears to be consuming less than 1 liter between 10,000 mile changes.

Would that be Service Advisory WC-55 (Replace Oil Separator)? Sounds like it...
Also, any ideas what these advisories are, by any chance? The main ones have details in the lines, but there's a few others performed that don't have any line item details, and the interwebs haven't helped much:
WC-73 (3/11 @6k miles)
AC-01, WB-19, WB-21, WB-29, WB-40 (3/12 @24k miles)
These are the ones that did have line items:
WC-26 (Reprogram Rear Diff LCU)
WC-34 (Reprogram ECU)
WD-03 (Reprogram DME Ctrl Unit)
WC-22
WC-55
WD-31 (Reprogram Rear Diff LCU)
WD-24 (Replace Center Console Latch)
WF-27 (PCM Update)

Yes, I once had the same question as the OP but then realized I was sometimes brushing the light switch with my knee entering the vehicle as mentioned above.

I believe not all of them apply to every vehicle however. It sometimes depends on optional equipment. For instance the 'Reprogram Rear Diff LCU' I think only applies to those vehicles having a locking rear differential, as you'd have with the PTV option for instance.

Yep, my '11 CTT has had many of these same campaigns addressed.
