Default 2011 S Top Ten Issues

Hi guys!

Considering getting yet another Porsche - this time looking at a 2011 GTS a neighbor is selling. 75,000 miles. It's not a CPO so all the fixing will be out of pocket. What can I expect?

He says it is not comfortable to drive long distances, and I read a review somewhere saying they drink a ton of oil, like a quart per 1000 miles or something.

If it has the 18-way seats, then yes I agree with the uncomfortable nature of those seats.
The foam on those 18-ways are a LOT firmer than the 14-way seat foam.

Re: Oil consumption,... I've heard those reports from RListers on older gens, but not so much the 958 V8's built by Porsche (verses VW). My 2012 958.1 CTT basically drinks no oil at all over the 10k mile change interval (caveat: I utilized the 10k oil change interval because I had a FREE PSMP service coverage on mine for my first 2 years of ownership, so all those oil changes cost me nothing. I am currently trying to determine if I will decrease the mileage of that interval).

Regarding what other things you can expect? hmmm, guess it depends on how well your neighbor took care of it. Assuming he did 100% of everything it ever needed during his first 5 yrs of ownership, over 75k miles,... then you can easily expect all the items listed in your maintenance booklet. Beyond that? Maybe some other folks can help answer. I'm only up to 35k on mine.

Hey thanks for that tip on the 18-way vs. 14-way seats! He bought it used and is selling it a few months later due to the seats - he takes several-hour road trips every week for work. Might be a deal killer for me. My road trips aren't as frequent but crap, man, if I get to look forward to a back crunch on the occasional long trip,, jeez.

So far, the biggest thing I've read on this forum is plastic cooling pipes - would be good to know how to check those / where they are located in engine bay and how to identify...

My 2011 Cayman S seats (no power, just base S seats) fit like a glove and I could drive that thing to the moon.

I concur on the seats. I turned down a super deal on a 2014 TTS because, after test driving it three times, I couldn't talk my wife or myself into the 18 ways seats. Bought a TT with 14 way seats and love them.

The 18 way seat thing is interesting. My 04S is one of the most comfortable vehicles I've driven on long trips.

Chance, Are you sure the coolant pipes are an issue on 958's?? I did not think it was. I have not even worried about it on my '12 CTT.

I thought that was for prior generation Cayenne's. IF it applies to 958 V8's too, then search the RL threads on figuring out how to identify.
I recall someone saying you can take a pic with a cell phone, if you can wedge it down in the right spot.

My 18 way seats are very comfortable. Have felt great on several long trips.

To each his own I suppose...

I have a 2013 base. The engine uses very little oil between changes. The main issue I've had after 83K miles is the front and rear windshield washer nozzles clogging up. However, those are relatively cheap and easy to replace. I do have PDCC and air suspension, no issues out of either component. The standard drivers side mirror is a bit small with a pretty big blindspot. I fixed it by installing the European style aspheric mirror.

That's pretty much it.
