Squealing non-ceramic brakes

Squealing non-ceramic brakes
I'm on my second set of pads and rotors on my '14 Turbo S and, as with the first set, they squeal like a freight train from 30 mph to stop. It's so bad I can't keep the windows open and if there's anyone around they all look over annoyed. Completely unacceptable. I'm ready to give it a go with another set of pads from a different manufacturer. Any recs?

Are you bedding them in upon installation

Did you try a couple of high speed hard braking runs? Not until a complete stop but something like 100mph (or more if you dare) - 10mph five times in a row. Let em cool down afterwards (10min of driving at least) and you might be squeak free.
My 8pots fronts were worse than a freight train after installing, did what I wrote above and no squeaking at all now.

Not to highjack your thread fattmatt, but to the two people that replied.
I have done the 'embedding' process described above a few times and sure the squeeling is gone, but a day or two of city driving and it's back as before.

all of this seems like a lot of work. Where am I going to find a place to drive 100 mph and brake down to 10 mph and then back up to 100 mph 5x in a row? Am I supposed to own a race track to drive this car? Has anyone used any pads other than oem that are more practically useful? these pads are crap. Any thoughts on posi quiet?

You should not have to go 100mph - 10mph to properly bed in brakes. 45-50mph then hard brake to almost a full stop, repeat about 3-5x and you should be fine. Good brakes should not squeal as you describe. Do you have any non-squeal backing & grease on the pads? Most I've used lately (like Brembo pads for instance) come with a back plate that you apply a light coating of a special grease to to prevent squealing. Works on my Infiniti.

Something I've found that helps, at least temporarily, is to make sure to rinse out the accumulated brake dust when washing the car. Easy to do by just directing the water to both sides of the caliper if you're in a DIY wash scenario.

Were there any type of shims installed when you removed the old pads? Sometimes these must be reused on the new pads if they didn't come with any.

Some manufactures will provide shims to quiet pads down. I had a horrific squeal when I changed to EBC reds on my DB9 and later found that Aston Martin came out with a shim kit (part#4G43-28-10789) to quiet them down. Granted the shims were designed for Aston branded brake pads but they worked just fine with my EBC's. Once I had the shims installed, the pads were quiet as can me. Maybe its worth looking into?

Buy new hardware and your problems should be solved.
