Default Time to buy tires

I've put about 4K miles on my 08 CTT since I got it in early February. I took it to a track day at Gateway International in St. Louis last week and it performed well. I'm a novice, never been on a track before, but I've raced dirt bikes a lot. After 2 sessions my instructor moved me up to intermediate. I was chasing a supercharged 08 Mustang Bullit around and he wouldn't point me by, he pulled into the pits after a couple laps and my instructor said "I'd get off the track too if i was driving that car and an SUV was pushing me around the track" It was really fun and I was proud of the way the CTT performed. It never felt out of its element.

Anyway, my rears are pretty much down to the wear bars and the fronts are not too far behind. I'm going to put the Conti DWS 06's on it as it's a year round vehicle for me. I have a 71 911 that I'm putting a 3.0L into that I'll use if/when I go back to the track. I'm looking for suggestions on where the best place to buy them is?

TIA

Buy them at your local tire dealer. If you buy them there, they'll usually rotate them for free. You'll need to rotate them every 5-7500 miles if you want to use the tread life warranty. IIRC, that's about 50K miles, and you'll get about half that. Which means your next set of tires will be pro-rated.

Thanks, great suggestion. I found a local tire dealer that can get within $15 of the Tire Rack price all in including tax. This also takes into account the cost of having them mounted and lifetime balance and rotation.

I got the new Conti DWS 06 tires on yesterday. Huge difference in road noise. I was starting to have my doubts about the CTT because to hear the radio at highway speeds it was so loud when I slowed to a stop that I was concerned about damaging my already suspect ears further. It was almost all tire noise from the worn Conti UHP's which looked pretty good until recently.

The new tire ride a lot smoother and turn in is decent, but definitely more squirmy as you would expect with a lot more tread. Overall very happy!

On a separate note, after sitting for a 10 days while we were out of town, the battery is pretty weak. I did a fair amount of driving yesterday and it seemed a little better, but this morning it tried to strand me at my first appt. It eventually started, but I put it on the garage on the batter tender. Battery was new in February. If that doesn't do it I'll check the voltage from the alternator at the charging points as suggested in another post.

My DWS tires have 30k miles on them and I might be able to get another 5k out of them. Good all-around tire but they are noisy. Going to switch to the Michelin Latitude sports that come standard on our cars. Supposedly the Michelin is the quietest Tire

My wheels are 21". The Conti is the only AS tire available in that size.

DWS and DWS 06 are different tires, with DWS 06 being much better in almost every way (wear, noise, handling). Latitude Sports are good, but very old tech (they are based on Pilot Sport 2 tires, which have been replaced with far superior pilot super sport long time ago). Latitude Sport 3 appear to be a long overdue update, but for some reason their wear rating is still low, not improved as much as between PS2 and PSS generations. I'm a huge Michelin fan, but it seems that they are dragging their feet with SUVs tires. For cars PSS and AS3 are pure magic, but the SUV analogs are 1-2 generations behind.

The latitude sports I am talking about come on the new Cayenne Turbo S and they lapped the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes. All they are is a super sport with a higher Max load to handle the weight of our vehicle. It looks like the same tread pattern as a pilot Super Sport. I thought the Continental DWS tires were fairly new I purchased mine maybe 2 years ago so why would they have a new version out within a two-year span?

subscribe.

I am in the market to replace too. I've enjoyed the Michelin Lattitude Sports that came on my 958 CTT.
Looks like I'll get 35k miles & I've been autocrossing them.

Original DWS came out 7 years ago and DWS 06 came out just over a year ago. For some reason, they still sell DWS now, so it's important to see the markings on the tire. It's a pretty clear difference - the name says DWS 06 rather than DWS.

I'm not 100% sure about latitude sports - they came out right after PS2s and their brochure says they are same as PS2 just for SUVs. Michelin could have updated them over the years, but none of the specs changed. There is also the new Latitude Sport 3 that came out last year. Seems like it's gradually replacing Latitude Sport

Yeah I think I'm talking about the latitude sport 3 because it's a pretty new tire and supposedly it's really quiet.

Do the new 06s address the pulling/wandering that the regular DWS induced on my CD? I am thankfully about done with my DWS tires (19") and am in the market for new tires. What is the current consensus on good all season? The N-spec tires are pretty sad for 19", which is why I went with the DWS. The DWS were on and off good/bad with my car so very hesitant to get them again.

FYI, last time around, I purchased some cheep Chinese tires (my friend is a tire salesman). I agreed to try them. Atturo AZ850, 295/35ZR21 107YXL. I know they are not on the approved Porsche list, but I find them to work just as good as the Continentals on the Street.
