Your welcome

I installed the V1, and ran the cable to the fuse box OK, but when I look at yours it seems that the cable may be taking power from the mirror.

Can you confirm that please.

No its just tied around the plastic piece that comes down to the mirror,
the wire is hidden under the headliner then ran to the fuse area.

I got the centre grab handle fixture installed this weekend.

Actually installed is not really the word, its a no screw hole design which cleverly sits over the handle and then locates in existing holes, push fit.

Its a very nice piece of design work. What you get is the base only, you have to supply the phone mount and attach that.

I used an old expanding phone mount from my "should I keep that or throw it out box" The iPod fits well.

Because of the @##@ weather I did not take any pics but will this week and post.

The black leather is a perfect match to mine which make it look built in.

Thanks again Kevin

Mike,

Please do post some pictures. I am thinking about buying that piece, but need to find some sort of device that will hold my Pocket PC Phone. Thanks!

Michael,
Thanks for the pics. My phonebase is scheduled for UPS delivery today.

Just one question.
How did you interface/connect your iPod to the audio system in the car?

The cable in the pictures looks like a headphone audio cable, not charging cable.

Thanks,

I had to add an FM modulator to the system, this injects the audio in thru the antenna cable, so the quality is as good or a little better than the best FM station you get, very nice sound actually.

here is a link to the install, if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

The cable is therefore a standard standard minijack from the RCA's which are on the FM Modulator itself.

To use it, you set up a preset channel on the radio 89.7 or the like. turn on a hidden power switch to the modulator and it takes over. Just a slight hassle turning it on, but once its going, the iPod sounds great as usual.

Take pic of your installation I might want to change my old phone holder to something newer.

I do not charge in the car unles its an emergency, the chargers I have introduce some switching noise.

Michael.. I assume your talking fuse numbers?
I tried to find a ignition power wire but had no luck.. well I did
find one under glove box, but it actually kicked off and on every few minutes ..
I'd like to avoid running power all the way to the fuse box..
Any suggestions?

Default Ipod

Mike,

Thanks for all the great tips. I got the V1 installed the same way you did, having my dealer installing the cable behid the mirror. Will work like a charm and ill post pics this w-e.
Now onto the Ipod, your install looks pretty neat. I was toying with the idea of installing my Ipod in a similar fashion.
Have you looked at the griffinITrip FM transmitter ? I am afraid I am nowhere near as handy as you are as taking your dashboard apart and it might be safer for me to play it like that!
Also, certainly not as neat as your set up but anybody has experience with the Ipod Cupholder
Again not as neat but fairly easy to set up!
Thanks for your help

Good morning Cyril

I have had an iPod every since it was released and have tried all sorts of way to get the input into car stereos. I have tried about 3 wireless methods, Including iTrip, which all claim to be better than the rest, but have never found one to work.

The problems transmitting inside the vehicle I think relate to the device competing with external antenna's and sometimes 2. Getting a frequency which is clear on the east coast also seems impossible to me. The sound quality takes a direct hit for the competing inputs your giving to the radio tuners.

I almost got one to work but that was holding the antenna and the ipod in such a way that I could not drive, sort of in midair above my head.

On my last car I used a cassette adapter which worked OK but it was a little unsightly. As the Cayenne does not have a cassette player I was forced to use the FM Modulator approach. Actually I am glad I did, the sound quality is very good (so long as I don't charge it at the same time, but thats another story.

From the mounting point of view, I searched everywhere for a nice looking mount but could not find any I liked.

Kevin M found the one I bought during an internet search, and I love it. It is a non-screw mounting which matches the leather on the car very well (black). I am going to replace the old phone holder I have in there right now as soon as I can find a smaller one more in scale with the iPod.

Good luck with your install and the Cayenne

Default Thank you

Mike,

As always thanks for your expert advice. I always wondered if these FM modulators actually work, it seems they don't!
I will keep you guys up on how I proceed next.

You have to buy a decent one, I got mine from my local up market car audio dealer, of three I tried there was differences. Dont confuse FM Modulators with FM Transmitters (iTrip).
