Default K&N Filters 2004 CS

Hey everyone. New to the forum here. This post is for anyone who has run/will run into a similar issue. Recently picked up a 2004 CS and I love the car. However, just as a precaution, I always perform all regular maintenance items right away on all the cars I purchase. Purchased K&N engine filters, dropped them into the piggie last night, and upon starting it up, I was met with a floating idle and CEL and also the PSM Workshop Failure warning. My guess is that it's one of the MAF's that are dirty with the oil on the filter or that I may have a vacuum leak somewhere. I'm going to clean the MAF's and look over all the air tubing and let you guys know what happens. If anyone has suggestions also, they'd be much appreciated! Thanks!

The universal suggestion is to throw those K&N filters in the garbage. They flow slightly more air because they filter slightly less better. Get an oil analysis and you'll see an uptick in wear metals and Si from the increase in sand getting past the air filter. Not only that, but you need oil on them, which will cause the MAFs to fail.

The only true application for a re-usable air filter is in the recreation world (ATVs, dirt bikes, etc) because they're often subject to water submersion. It's why they're foam with oil on them. Your air box and air filters are the same units on the Turbo S, which flows enough air for 500+ HP. I can assure you that they flow *more* than enough air for a CS. The factory air filters are also an 80K mile change interval. I checked mine at 40K miles, and they're still clean. I'll likely replace them at 60K miles preventatively.

My suggestion is to get the factory filter, throw those K&N filters in the garbage, and enjoy 6-8 years of air filter freedom.

Stock air filter/intake not a bottle neck — especially with the NA v8. Even heavily modded turbos are not seeing gains from tinkering with the intake. Put it towards some really nice tires or refreshing the suspension so you can carry more speed when it counts.

If you make a change and suddenly have an issue, revert to pre-change and see if it goes away. K&N is the Monster Cable of the automotive aftermarket. Performance through marketing.

If they're new, they won't be over oiled and affect the MAF. Check the plumbing again.
