Driving experience
Just wanted to pop in from the 928 forum.
Bought my wife a meteor gray 08 cayenne s and wanted to just say I am extremely impressed with the driving experience.
I am really impressed with its handling and feel. I really was surprised once I got it on the twisties.
Falling in love .....

Cadillac.....I doubt it....
I guess you have never driven a well sorted 928.
It may be faster but no way a 5k sub will put handle it.
We've had jags, m series, AMG, other p cars , so I am somewhat familiar with handling....

Ok... let me rephrase my post in a dry and non-offensive manner: since you bought your wife a 957 S and so greatly enjoy the way it drives, you should treat yourself to a 958 Turbo with PDCC and you will be even further surprised that such a large car/suv/truck can handle so well.
Sorry for bothering to post in your thread in the first place.

I am NEVER going to rain on a '08 CS. Fantastic choice in my opinion for a DD. ESPECIALLY when it was bought for the wife. Well done yardpro.
And I agree with you,... we will never feel the low-to-the-ground sensations that come from a "well sorted 928" (which I drove several back in the mid 80's) for sure,.... but I will throw in....
Viewpoint: Comparing my 958 CTT PDCC/PTV, to my '91 964 Turbo,... I certainly do not get the same exhilaration {in the CTT} as my 964T,.... but I gotta agree to some extent with garrett376,...
Even though it's a 4,800 lb higher ride height beast,... it is an amazing ride,.. and many times the thrill DOES INDEED rival my 964T.
Could it beat my 964T around the autocross track? Absolutely. Hands down no question. Why? ... uuuuh, because I would be sidewayz most of the time in that car. But I really do NOT like to compare vast generational gaps when they are THAT far apart. We're talking 21 yrs of technology advancement. It's just not fair. .... but since I own both & we're really talking about comparing to old cadillac's, I guess I will.
If I had to choose only one,.... it would be the one with only one Turbo. It's my love. I hauled my kids {when they were tikes} around in it. Just like I am sure the 928 is DNA for yardpro.
And to be honest, with the daily smile the CTT puts on my face,... and the fact that I don't,... {scratch that...} can't drive the 964T like I used to,... as many miles as I used to,... and driving the CTT on a daily basis.... I am amazed that I would still choose the 964T.
That's how good that CTT/PDCC machine is.
I wish you all the best in your journey of falling in love with the CS. It will indeed grow on you,... and hopefully one day, your experiences in it, your memories with it, will also grow into loving it.
I know I am "getting there" with mine.

Thanks for the reply Steve.
That was a great way to explain the difference. I apprecieate the feedback. I would have looked at the turbo if it were for me for sure, but it would have been wasted on the wife's car.
Would love to give the new ones a spin. Unfortunately they are out of the budget for now.... I have too many hobbies.. Would have to sell one of my boats and curtail my golf or diving... And that my friend is not happening ...
I'll just have to wait until some of the snooty Guys decide it's too old and antiquated and de idea they have to have the new one cause it makes theirs feel like an old Cadillac.....lol
Fortunately the steep depreciation of these will put one in my financial realm in a few years.
Also I love the 964... The most beautiful p car ever made in my opinion... The pinnacle of the air cooled P cars.
They are also too pricey for my wallet... The 996 however (I know it is sacreldge for you air cooled guys) is looking good...
Might add one to the stable soon.
Also looking at a 944 today. started getting into autocross so may pick it up as a autocross project car...

Perhaps the best way to say it is, if you loved the S experience for an SUV, the CTT experience is 10 times that. It's shocking how Porsche has been able to make 5000 lbs behave like a sports car especially with the addition of the turbos (and the cluster is sooo much nicer). I have an 04 CTT and my other car is a V12 Ferrari. They are obviously different but I take incredible and similar joy in driving both. Plus, it's amazing how much these P!Gs depreciate - can find yourself a well sorted 957 CTT for a lot less than expect.

I really enjoy driving my CTT and can't imagine ever driving/owning anything else. In fact, I enjoy my CTT just as much as my 09 911 TT 6MT.

Yardpro,
Good to hear great minds think alike. Totally agree on getting the CS for the wifey, and reserving the high end performance for the person in the family who will ... drive it like he stole it. '08 CS was probably very easy to get into (price-wise). I had driven two 4Runners over 22 yrs (to the tune of 300+k miles) with essentially zero debt on them. So that helped me justify the CTT with the wife. She supported my goal 100% (which was laid out decades ago Btw! - so at least I did have forethought). I needed a SUV to haul all my hockey & kiteboarding gear around,... but this one allows me to autocross it too (bonus!). So I bought my '12 CTT/PDCC/PTV-&-GTS-aero-pkg w/ 16k miles one year ago now (so it was 3 yrs old), for $77k. It had a MSRP of $150k - Talk about depreciation. CRIMINY! (tons of frivoulous options that I now get to enjoy, but would have never checked the boxes on if I was buying it new. $150k is a bit excessive for a DD SUV in my opinion).
Anyway, I agree ... it all just depends on who it's for, what they can appreciate, & utilize, and thus justify.
Oh, and Btw I still love the 928 all these years later. With the boat anchor cast iron BBChevy (396's) in my 2 old Camaro's, I have always had admiration & appreciation for the 928's all aluminum V8. Man back in the day I just drooled over the engine bay of that car.
And you are right to be looking at 996's. They are great cars at fantastic prices right now. If I wasn't beating my CTT up on the autocross track, that's what I'd be in.
Have fun out there! (oh, Btw my golf swing is like a hockey slap shot. My slice usually has me yelling at the guys on the adjacent hole. Not my game for sure, Lol)

Fast forward and I purchased an 09 CTT with air springs and PDCC. Truly unbelievable what this heavy weight vehicle is capable of doing around a turn at speed.
I still love my 90 928GT and can drive turns a bit harder than the CTT, but it just feels a little slower now when I step in the gas going straight

The 958 is lighter than the 957 and it makes a difference. Porsche brought their physics bending design from the 911 to the SUV world in these beasts. They just don't handle at all what you expect going in even after reading all the "yes it really is a Porsche" talk.
I've been watching and wanting a Cayenne since they came out so I think I was pretty versed in what they can do, but throwing my Diesel around an AutoX course was an eye opening experience. Absolutely shocking how capable it is even with steel springs and high walled all weather 18s. Even held its own against the unmodified 996s and older 911s that were out there!
Try owning a 996. At least you don't get to hear about how it's not a "real" 911. We replaced you guys at the bottom of the barrel

sorry... I had to say it. Trust me, our 5k pound SUV would man handle your 928. I can throw my 5500 pound Turbo S into a turn at 90mph and it feels like I'm not even turning thanks to PDCC. Until you experience a Turbo Cayenne with PDCC, I would leave that one alone.
