Default Help set-up to tow utility trailer

I am the orig owner of an '06 CS with the factory tow package. I want to buy a utility trailer for general use such as this http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded...p-ML/204187355. The trailer weighs around 550 lbs and the GVWR is 2,000 lbs so the Pig should be able to handle this with ease and presumably without trailer brakes.

I've been searching and reading posts and they've generated a few questions.

Q1: I'm trying to separate the plate from the plug (see pic below). The grey part slides up but I can't get the plate off. Does it slide out, twist or ?

Q2: The trailer adapter pug is a 4 way flat for the trailer lights. Do I need this adapter: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/TRADX.html

Q3: Does the dealer need to activate the system?

Q4: I don't think the trailer has LED lights but if so, will that be a problem?

Q5: Can someone recommend a stand up type trailer that's easier to store?

Q6: Anything else I should be aware of?

I had my tow package installed by the dealer. no issues.

Q1: I'm trying to separate the plate from the plug (see pic below). The grey part slides up but I can't get the plate off. Does it slide out, twist or ? Answer. You should not have to separate anything. You should be ready to hook up to a standard seven pin coming from a trailer. Like this one. https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Hopkins/H20046.html

Q2: The trailer adapter pug is a 4 way flat for the trailer lights. Do I need this adapter: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/TRADX.html Answer. You could spend that much for a 7 to 4 adapter but you can get one at Walmart that looks like this one https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Pollak/PK12716.html

Q3: Does the dealer need to activate the system? Answer. If your towing package is factory installed, nothing needs to be activated.

Q4: I don't think the trailer has LED lights but if so, will that be a problem? Answer. You might get a bulb warning in the cockpit display. The UHaul trailer had LED and set it off. Lights worked just fine. I did notice a small amount of voltage running though the wiring after shutdown and vehicle locked. Very dim short flash in the lights. Probably a normal system checking circuits so I disconnected the lights at the harness at night.

Q5: Can someone recommend a stand up type trailer that's easier to store? Answer. Not at a 2000lb gross.

Q6: Anything else I should be aware of?[/QUOTE] Answer. You may have to buy some screw shackles at the hardware store if the safety chain hooks are too narrow to fit through the trailer hitch rings. Because I was hauling overnight, I bought large hasped heavy locks as the connection for the safety chain. Have someone who has towed a lot show you the proper way to shorten the chain (twist each chain) and crisscross the chains. Properly matched ball size is key. Grease the ball. Check the age of the trailer tires. Tires properly inflated. Are the bearings recently repacked with grease.

Thanks for the help. The plate I'm trying to replace blocks access for the 7 pin (see pic below that shows the exposed plate with it's screwed in). I think I should replace it with something like this so that I can attach a 4 pin adapter. http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Pollak/PK11893.html

Another thread suggests this adapter if the trailer with LEDs: http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Tow-Ready/TR20141.html

Can you recommend something a little bigger? The Kendon trailers are nice but also relatively expensive https://www.kendonusa.com/product/st...-atv-trailers/

Now I understand about the plate. Someone else will need to speak up as I would think that the selling dealer would have made sure that it was "complete". Have you called your servicing dealer about it?

Regarding a folding trailer. I was thinking of enclosed trailers. I don't have any experience with folding trailers.

Regarding the adapter for LED cars. That is a nice find. It just went on my list

The plate is OEM and designed to keep water dirt out when not is use. I removed the grey clip and the plate fell out so now I'll replace it with this one that has a spring loaded cap. http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Pollak/PK11893.html

Whenever I want to tow, simply plug this in and click in the wires from the trailer http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Pollak/PK12716.html

Thanks for helping me sort this out

So the four phillips screws hold a "cover plate" over an open-ended 7-pin receiver?

My 2011 Cayenne S has this plate to the left of the factory-installed (ordered with the vehicle) hitch.

thanks guys, Mark

The 4 screws release the assembly from the pocket. Then the cover plate is "plugged" into the socket. You may have to wrestle the plate out of the socket buy releasing the plastic clip. Then the 7 prongs are familiarly accessible.
