Aftermarket Fogs

Aftermarket Fogs
Thinking of adding these behind the front grill fascia to improve visibility in winter driving. Anyone done something like this and have feedback? Wondering about switch placement as well. Dealer hasn't been a huge help and says most if not all of the unused console switches on my GTS can't be retro-fitted to run the hellas.

I haven't done anything, but I've been thinking about it too. On my 955 Turbo, there is a huge space behind the front bumper grill. I was thinking of bolting a piece of aluminum angle to the vertical support right in front of the rad, then the lights could bolted to the angle. The issues I'm concerned about are the weight of the lights and the strength of the support and the angle. The lights can't be too heavy otherwise the whole assembly will vibrate.
Also unsure of switch placement too, going to be difficult to integrate it nicely. That said, I think there may be a switch blank just above the stereo/PCM. I haven't looked, but that could hopefully be drilled through and a simple toggle mounted there. Wouldn't look OE at all though.

I've had PIAA fogs on my Hondas when I was younger. They never helped that much when the snow was really heavy. On the CTT - the light output is more than adequate for snow. I tried yellow fogs on my S4, but even that did a negligible job.
At some point, you just can't get beyond the fact that snow is going to obscure your ability to see beyond a certain distance.

Can the main centre grille on a 955 Turbo come out from the front, or only from inside with the bumper off? It could be a pain to access the lights to service them if you can't get the grille out from the front with the bumper still on the car. I was thinking of complete LED units to cut down on servicing.

Humm...not my cup of tea.
I should go with a small LED BAR or something like this:

Yeah, I'm the opposite. I don't know how much light those LED DRL strips provide. I'd like something more substantial myself.
I saw a Japanese import late 90s Legacy on the street here a few weeks back. It had some large, round dogs or driving lights stuffed behind the front grille.

How many miles on your car? If you think your car doesn't have enough light output - you must have really old ballasts or bulbs. To have any kind of functional light output from behind a Cayenne grill, you'd need to cut holes in it. The slats are too deep to really allow a light to point at the road - especially if the housings aren't pressed right up against the grill.
The CTT with new ballasts and bulbs puts out more light than my S4 with the Valeo euro-housings (clear projectors) and 55W ballasts. Any more light than that, and without a proper cutoff, and you'll be blinding everyone driving at you.
I can comfortably drive triple digit speeds at night across remote parts of WY in the dark with the high beams on - and I can see much further than I need to.

No, i just found it on Google. I had done a similar installation of Hellas on my FJ Cruiser, so I saved it thinking I could look into doing an install on my CTT. Unlike the OP I wasn't looking to use an OEM Porsche switch.

Well, I did the reverse Google image search, and reading a few threads here, Planet 9 and 6speed, it seemed like the member who created the image just did it as a quick mock up. Might have to try hackspeed engineering this myself...I don't wanna get all pick-up trucky, but there are a lot of them with LED light bars out there now, I suppose that could work too. The hard part will be finding something secure to which to bolt the lights or light bar. As soon as I do my belt tensioner and idler pulleys, I'll look into this some more.

I ran into a guy locally here in Seattle that had a Transiberia with a really nice narrow LED light bar replacing the original Hella HIDs. It looked great. I wish I had taken a photo of his setup.
A narrow, double row LED should work on the factory bar. The roof rack on the Transiberia is exactly the same, just cut to fit the HIDs...That is the route I am exploring, but haven't come up with a solution for the roof penetration for the wiring. I am reluctant to drill a hole!
Cheers,
