Well, P2181 code is back. As far as cooling system, everything works good, but I will start getting parts.

I noticed few alternative part manufacturers out there, I have never used anything non-OEM besides Bosch which does not make Thermostat or Water-pump for the GTS.

I might still go with genuine Porsche parts but wondering if there is any brand I should consider to save few hundred dollars just by not having Porsche crest on the packaging :-)

Wahler and Behr/Hella thermostat is OEM. LASO water pump is half the cost of OEM HEPU unit...but same identical quality.

Gaskets, O-rings and the "special" Porsche lubricant?

If you replace the coolant temp sensor, there's a good chance that you will have to remove the intake. Some claim that it can be done w/o removing. If so, you'll need replacement gaskets there as well.

Thank you Andy.

The water pump comes with gasket, the intake socket comes with two O-rings. Any other I might be missing, which gaskets, what lubricant, which O-rings, How many and any part numbers would be greatly appreciated.

Generally, the dealer's parts guy will have service kits for specific jobs. Within the service kits, you'll have the req'd hardware to replace a given component (gaskets/lubricant/adhesive/loctite/etc...).

Here's Pelican's writeup on the thermostat replacement:

Thank you again Andy. My indy will do the work, waiting to get a quote from him for labor.
I just want to get everything possible to make it easier for him.
I am sure he can get the little things if it comes down to it.

UPDATE: My Smog-check is coming up in June, so I cannot have any "check engine light" to pass it.
So have no choice and finally address the P2181 code I get once in the while. Planning to tackle this myself this week. Using the PelicanParts DIY for "the thermostat and water pump replacement" https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...eplacement.htm

Got the following parts:
- Behr Thermostat (#94810612501) $62
- Hamburg Technic Aluminium Thermostat Socket (948100610103) $25
- LASO Water Pump with gasket (#75200112 / 94810603301) $116
- Porsche "Genuine" 4LUBERPLUS Grease (#000-043-205-93) $24

Purchased 2x Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing seals (#00004330123), are these the same ones on the Thermostat Socket or wher do these go?

Also, purchased the Porsche "Genuine" Temp Sensor (#99760642000) $22, but with it being located bellow the intake manifold, I am NOT going to swap it for now.

QUESTIONS:
1) As far as the Upgraded Aluminum Coolant Pipe Tube (#94810606910), I bought one, but where is the tube located? Anyone with experience replacing the plastic unit?
2) Also, purchased the Porsche "Genuine" Coolant Vent Line (#94810602603), same question, where is it located? Is it easily replaceable?

Any input wound be greatly appreciated.

I did one for a customer about a month ago. Not too bad of a job.

Pulling that intake is super easy. Way easier than the 955.

No injectors to disconnect? No fuel rail removal? It appears to me on my '11 - that it's basically disconnect a few plastic hoses (trying not to break them..) and undo the screws holding the intake down and simply lift it up and out?

Thank you so much for the photos, I can see it now, the upgraded pipe and also the coolant vent line. Both under the intake manifold.
So do I have to remove the thermostat housing to replace the pipe? Did you use any sealant or is the new pipe just inserted into the housing?

I might just split the project to two separate projects based on everything here.
STAGE 1 (I do this one this week to get rid off the p2181)
- Behr Thermostat (#94810612501)
- Hamburg Technic Aluminium Thermostat Socket (948100610103)
- LASO Water Pump with gasket (#75200112 / 94810603301)

STAGE 2 (near future, when removing the Intake manifold)
- Upgraded Aluminum Coolant Pipe Tube (#94810606910)
- Porsche "Genuine" Coolant Vent Line (#94810602603)
- Porsche "Genuine" Temp Sensor (#99760642000)

QUESTION: Purchased 2x Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing seals (#00004330123), are these the ones on the "Thermostat Socket" or if not, where do these go?

Removing the thermostat housing made it easier to remove the pipe for sure. I took a small saw and cut the plastic pipe in half to remove it easier. I carefully placed the housing in a vice and heated the spot where the pipe goes in. It was pretty stubborn and had to break it at the face of the housing and chip away at the plastic as it has a double o'ring. Once it released the tension, it came out in a few pieces. Make sure to clean the surface with some high grit sand paper and run water through the housing to clean it out. BTW the thermostat will come out in a bunch of pieces along with the old sleeve. For installation I just used the Porsche goop.

Also get yourself a set of these

Have fun!

Best

Crap, the torx bolts on the water pump pulley are not coming off, one is totally stripped now, what should I do now. What a disappointment.
