Default 08 CTT - slow to engage reverse

I had a shop swap out my valve body that was changing gears harshly and suddenly and now that it's been swapped for a remanufactured unit from Revmax, I've noticed that when I move the shifter from Park to Reverse, there's about a 2-3 second delay before you feel the thump that it engaged.

With new synthetic transmission fluid (Redline D4 from ECS' transmission kit package) and the valve body, the gears 1-6 shift through nicely, the 3 to 4 upshift still thumps, but every other shift is good.

Anyone else experience this?

Where did they get the valve body from?

I'd find out what procedure they shop used to fill the tranny. It needs to be 40 degree C and have fluid dripping out the fill hole WITH the engine running, before they install the plug.

The shop said they filled it correctly, but I emailed Revmax and they said it might be an issue of the car not adapting to a different valve body.

Revmax offered to rebuild my original one, the one that was going to be sent in as a core, and refurbish it with new solenoids so that the pairing will not be an issue as it'll be the original valve body.

I tend to agree with wrinkledpants on possibly the wrong fill level. I know a guy in California who rebuilds Aisins and he actually recommends plugging the tranny a few degrees before 40'C unless you live in a real hot climate (Arizona, Floriday, etc...). He says they don't mind a slightly high level but a slightly low level will have a noticeable effect on operation. After I did mine (closed it at 35'C), I drove around for a couple of miles, came back parked it, let it cool overnight (takes a long time to cool down), then re-checked it and the level had dropped. I just did the Fluid and filter but let it drain overnight, must have been air in the lines that took a short drive to purge. I'd have them check the fluid level again but that means leaving it with a shop overnight or at least dropping it off in the morning and leaving it most of the day to cool so they can check it at the right temp. If they check it too hot then your level is going to be low.

I had my revmax valve body matched to the TCU. There was a slight hesitation while accelerating at hwy speeds. I took it in to my Porsche dealer and they reprogrammed the TCU. Works perfectly now. That could definitely be it. Supposedly the late 06 and later did not need the TCU matched. Mine was a later valve body and still needed the reprogramming.

hmmm, that's interesting.

well, I'm going to have them rebuild and re-install my original valve body and see if that helps, if not, i'll take it to the dealer for reprogramming.

when you click on resetting the adaptation, does that not "reprogram" the TCU? Or is it only reprogramming the valve body?

Having it done with PIWIS is more than just adaptation. I don't know all the ins and outs. I have just read about it on Porsche and Touareg forums.

Re-setting the adaption just zero's out any of the learned driving habits. Probably what Porsche did with the TCU is re-install the software or upgrade it to the newest version.

That's it! Just looked at the invoice and they installed the latest updates. They did the TCU and the ECU

Can you tell me what the dealer charged you for the updates?

About $300 Canadian. I took it in to have the car checked for any aftermarket tune and also to see why I had a slight hesitation when accelerating hard from 40 to 80 mph. No tune found, but they did the TCU update. I hadn't told them I had changed the valve body. I also wanted any updates on the ECU. I guess it takes a while to load. The dealer charges about $150 an hour during the busy summer months. Less in winter. lol
