I use Pentosin G12++ which is a Porsche approved anti-freeze. I wouldn't use anything that doesn't say Porsche Approved.

Is there a list of Porsche approved fluids like the one for tires?

Porsche listed all fluids in their older cars owners manuals.

I have 2 928s and shall verify the coolant specs for the 5.4L V8 engine, which given the materials should be same for the Cayenne engine.

Could also consider VW's coolant. Less $$ than Porsche's.

From the 928 GTS owners manual:

"only use phosphate free antifreeze containing ethylene glycol recommended for aluminium engines and radiators".

I would highly suggest using the OEM coolant. It is not that expensive when you consider you are replacing the coolant so infrequently.

In other words: GM Dexcool or any other modern antifreeze will do.

The OEM is obligated to say "Use us", otherwise they'd have quite a crappy business model. Just look at what they recommend as replacements for the Cardan Shaft issues on these cars. More OEM Cardan Shaft parts! HA!

Man, I know we ran from Dexcool due to gelling and clogging of cooling components in the 944 world. Porsche coolant is flipping cheap-- what sense to use anything other than Porsche coolant unless the other brand is far superior?

Running a Porsche on a Toyota budget doesn't end well.

Dex-cool will be just fine. I have been using it for years with no issues. Just change it at regular intervals.

agreed, their business model would be crappy if they didn't recommend taking our Porsche cars to the dealership for every minor/major service.

Curious if their procurement model negotiates for VW, Audi and Porsche for economy of sale.

I used Pentosin brand antifreeze type PENTOFROST SF. I was able to purchase it at my local O'Reilley's for $12.99. I have an 06 CS. It seems that Pentosin makes the antifreeze for Porsche. Call/email them for their recommendation.
