Default 3.2 MPG

Hi,

Car is mainly used for town driving and dropping kids off on a 2 mile trip.
Average MPG showing on PSM is 12/13 mpg.
Is this about right?

Appreciate any comparisons.

Cheers

A bit confused... Is it 3.2mpg or 12-13mpg? I routinely show about 1 less than what I actually calculate using the Road Trip app. Manual calculations show 15.5 combined, 955 shows around 14.

First off you are in the UK, so I think that your imperial gallon is larger than an american gallon. 1.2 UK = 1 US if I remember correctly.

2nd, what is your car, a V6 or V8.

3rd that is horrible mileage!

On my 955 V8 I got about 15 city, 18-19hwy, on the 957 Turbo S I get about 13 city, 15-17hwy, all US based.

I think for in town driving and that short of a school commute then that is what you would expect. On a 2 mile commute the engine and oil won't even get up to full operating temperature. Even though the gauge might show normal by the end of your commute if you hook up Durametric you will see that it takes over 10 miles for the water and over 15 miles for the oil to get to normal temp so for most of your driving the engine is probably still running rich (Cold cycle). Short trips like this is also harder on your oil as contaminations and moisture don't evaporate (get burned off) so you need to change your oil more often.

Thanks, would having the LX793 Mahle Air filter which is designed for high dirt areas and has an additional sponge layer on top, cause a reduction in MPG due to restricted air, as apposed to a LX792.

No. The filter is sized for adequate flow at wide open throttle; which is almost never. At normal throttle settings in daily driving, the filter has to be either pretty filthy or very restricting to affect air flow.

Certainly not in normal driving situations. I'd only be concerned with no-name or bargain filters.

I was only asking to make comparison against other owners to understand if it was normal and I didn't have any problem, that's all dude.

our 04 CTT is dire around town, school runs and 8 miles each way to work is just showing 14.5mpg. We did reach around 19.5 on a 60 mile motorway trip though. I new these were thirsty though before I bought it...It uses MUCH more juice than my 6.0L V8 HSV which is funny

Anyways its smiles per miles isnt it ?

Yeah, that's in the ballpark. You might get 17+ on the highway, but it won't be much more than that.

My wife gets 8-9 mpg in San francisco. About 15-16 in the hw. Bought her a fiat 500e to putter around town- it gets about 112 mpg. We only use the pig for Costco or Tahoe/long distance runs. Your mileage sounds about rt. Mike
