Stupid Question: Audi Q7 Tow Hitch OEM fits CTT?
I have 11 Audi Q7 with original hitch, wiring, computer. I think that I have read that rear bumper enforcement with hitch from Q7 fits Touareg but many things from from Touareg fit Cayenne?
Any thoughts?
Thank you

Hitch should fit - control module won't work, though. You'll need the porsche towing module, which can probably be bought separately. But, if you're not towing with it and just using the hitch for a rack, then it'll be fine.

Tow module adds an extra set of blinker indicators on the dash so you know they're working on the trailer. Changes the shift points and a few other drivability parameters. Adds an alarm system so that if the power is disconnected from the trailer while the car is locked - the alarm goes off. And, it turns off the rear parking sensors if you have them. You'd need to add a trailer brake system if that's something you need.

Depending on how old the hitch is, I think around 2004 or so VW switched to smaller diameter bolts with sleeved carriers for the holes, no clue why, save a few pennies, but not re-design the hitch? 14mm to 12mm. These will NOT work on 955/957 cars, I don't know the 958s. Either way, the bolts you remove to pulle the old steel tow bumper, are NOT sufficient.
Porsche never made this change for the 955/957 cars, and I cant speak for the audi cars.
You also want to follow the torque and tightening spec for the hitch. Either way I would go with new bolts as the tensile strength could be comprised if the hitch was never torqued right originally.

110nm torque, same as the 12mm bolts.
If you plan to do the full 7700lbs, I would be following stuff to the T on the install.
I took a 2004 VW module and was able to use it on my 955 Cayenne, have not move it all over to the 957 to test. There are different revs of the module, so make sure you get the latest, old ones are not field flashable.
I did a lot of re-search a few years back

That's news to me. I've read about a few people installing the VW hitch on a Cayenne, but maybe they used different hardware and never mentioned it? I couldn't get a CTT module to work on a Treg. I assumed it was the same going the other way.

Did the Q7 control module work? I need to grab a module at short notice...have the hitch and factory wiring harness already installed, but no control module. I can only get my hands on an Audi module at this time....

touareg set worked
I have removed hitch, module, harness, bolts from 13 touareg and installed all on my 11 tt. Once i was done, i took the vehicle to the dealer to program a module and thats it. I haven't tried the set from Q7 instead i took from touareg.

This is a super old thread, but has anyone since tried a Audi Q7 trailer hitch on the Cayenne? I know the Cayenne ones have the 2 extra reinforced bumps. Not sure if it will make a difference though because the silver non hitch one on my car does not have those humps.

There's a Curt hitch that fits the Cayenne and the Touareg, but not the Q7: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hit...007/75950.html
Curt doesn't make a Q7 hitch, but Draw Tite does: Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Item # 75950. If you read the reviews for this hitch, someone says they put it on their Cayenne (2014 & 2015), and it's great: https://www.etrailer.com/p-75950.htm...tails=.reviews
So, I guess it might fit.
(FWIW: I've had the Curt hitch for many years. It's been flawless.)

Hi Shawn,
Well the reason I am asking is because there is a genuine Audi trailer hitch, with wiring harness and controller at junkyard for $35. For that price, its really hard to pass up, lol. I was actually thinking of getting a Q7 too in the future, so I might get it anyway. I mean for that price, I can keep it, scrap it, or sell it and not really worry. However, I would like to install it if possible. I only need it for a bike rack, lol. MAYBE a storage box for traveling or one of those basket things.
I did look at the VW touaregs and Q7 ones and compared to the cayennes, and I "think" the difference is the screw on tow hook. The non cayenne ones, the tow hook wont work anymore because its too shallow, whereas the genuine tow hitches have that extra weld. I also notice the curt ones don't have the tow hook screw hole. So I guess thats the difference. Someone correct me if I am wrong...
