Default First tow trip in 958 diesel

From SoCal to San Francisco pulling featherlite 3110 and my rs. Weight would be about 4600 lbs plus truck was loaded up. Truck pulls great. Oil never got above 250 on grapevine. Average door to door almost 23 mpg at average 62 mph. Had a little traffic getting out of la....Very happy with this thing comfortable, could hardly tell trailer was there.

Looks fantastic, this is precisely the setup I'm putting together, just with a little bit more orange. You're getting better mileage towing than I get just driving the gt3 to the track directly right now.

You have air suspension on the Diesel? I recently towed from San Diego to Laguna (about 420mi ea way) and got a whopping 12.6mpg with my GTS towing about 5500 with a 61mph avg. Grapevine was no prob... but the gas bill is pretty sizable compared to yours! If the gas tax goes through in January, I think we're getting a diesel cayenne!

That's an ouch has bill. 2x the fuel plus premium to boot. I figured mine burned about 17 gallons at 3.80 fill up. Not bad.

Car does not have air suspension. Don't need it with this weight amount. Heavier load would be nice but truck barely dropped and looks about level.

23 seems abnormally high. I would be very surprised if you got 23 towing anything at all, let alone another car on a trailer. Can you confirm those numbers?

What do you get on the highway with the Cayenne diesel not towing anything?

Gorgeous pair of P-cars by the way.

23 was indicated. I get 32-33 on highway cruising at 70-75. I got 27.5 pulling trailer empty 400 miles with average speed about 60 over the 400 miles which included 2 stops and some traffic. Example, drove from millbrae to Palo Alto last night on 280 is constant rolling hills at 70mpg and trip computer mpg was 34.

My computer based on actual fuel added is about 1 mpg optimistic. So take that off. This is based on fill up yesterday after dropping trailer and driving another 125 miles on the same tank of fuel. So that's about 425 to NorCal and another 125 miles. Filled up and based on fuel added average was almost 25. Keep in mind that 125 was w/o trailer and mostly highway.

Still good. I figured anything over 20 was killer. Oh also I did fill my tires to the max load pressures. Normally I have them at the comfort pressures. I have 19" wheels.

I just did 1600 mile road trip on my 955 CS. Not pulling a trailer I got average 17.8 mpg. Seems like the diesel is a great choice.

I have a Cayenne Diesel and the same Featherlite trailer. Towing my Cayman I've gotten as little as 13mpg and as much as 20mpg, depending entirely on road conditions. Flat level highway is good for close to 20mpg. Back roads with lots of steep hills, stop lights and some traffic can reduce that to 13. But on a trip last week from North Caroilina to Boston, without the trailer, I recorded 34.7mpg based on miles driven divided by actual number of gallons consumed at the pump. The PCM estimates mpg optimistically by 2+ mpg in my experience.

I've had my diesel for a year now and love it. ONLY shortcoming is the diesels do not have differential locks. I would think they should be available as an option (normal P company profit mode) or as standard.

Similar experiences to OP. 2013 CD towing Cayman on an open aluminum trailer, getting 20-21mpg. Lots of toque and decent handling - it's a great tow vehicle. On the highway not towing though, can get 37-38mpg, depending on avg speed. All around, in my incredibly biased opinion, you just can't beat this diesel.

2013 CD tows our 20' enclosed Featherlite (overall length is 26'). With 911 and gear it is ~6000 - 6200lbs and tongue weight ~ 500lbs. Tows great but I would not go much longer or heavier. I get between 14-16 mpg towing around NorCal and SoCal. I have air suspension and that makes a substantial difference for our setup. It really is a very good medium duty rig.
