gen.1 vs. gen. 2 reliability...

I was just at my local indy. Has a 2000 996 with a hole in the top of the case. Seems a connecting rod bolt took early retirement.
Car still drove, just leaked a lot of oil. It is Tiptronic, they have a higher failure rate.

I read the other thread about cylinder scoring of V8 cars. It's said TT has more tolerance, hence not as many issues.
What about GTS? Would it be like V8 or does it get oil squirting and more tolerance as TT?
Thanks

It's an na engine. Turbos don't have to have the tight tolerance to make hp. I believe the GTS does have the extra oiling though. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Interestingly, there's a lot more GTS available in the market than Turbo!
Lastly, in terms of standard option, was TT more heavily optioned or GTS? For instance was PDCC, Air, and Leather interior standard on either TT or GTS?

Air (as in PASM) & Leather were definitely standard on the Turbo and on my Turbo S park assist was standard, not sure if park assist is standard on the regular Turbo. PDCC wasn't available I believe until 2008.

Also i think the scoring issue was more prevalent in colder climates. Don't think Vancouver is all that cold. Alberta east to Ontario maybe. But to be safe, getting a turbo is a smart choice. I didn't get one way back when because i was worried about the fuel prices (2008). And after owning one for some time now i'm finding that the difference between a V8 and a V8 turbo is negligible. My 2004 CS has 90,000 and running strong. The only replacement i can see for now is a 2008 Turbo. But i will be happy to drive this for another 5 years.
