Default What versions/years of a navigation head unit can be used in a 2006 S?

Hi folks,

My wife's '06 S has the CD-23 head unit. Any ideas what versions of a navigation unit would plug in there instead? For instance, would an '08 PCM 2.1 unit work?

Thanks,
Paul

PCM2.1 to PCM2.1 should be 'almost any' '05 to '08 head. But if you had Bose you need to get a Bose head, if you get Nav you need to get a Nav head. I think if you find a head that was enable for Sat, Compass, etc... you will end up with those items. If you get a head that didn't have those items enabled (PIWIS), and you had them before you will loose them until you get to the dealer to have them re-enabled. Now with that said I'm not sure about going from the CD-23 to PCM. Probably the same plugs but I don't know.
P.S. I have a '08 head in my '06 CTTS off Ebay.

You don't just need the head unit, you need that, plus DVD drive under the seat, plus the amp, plus all the wiring. Don't forget the antenna. Also believe there was the compassmodule under the rear passenger seat to for the internal navigation compass (not the one on the dash)

If you have the upgraded stock radio with BOSE, then maybe.

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...Code=955s_elec They sell the complete kit, you could ask what is in that nicely, then source the parts yourself on ebay for $1500-$2000.

I don't remember all the details but I believe it was a PITA.

Hmmm, so you're saying that even though both run MOST, the non-Nav amp cannot be used with a Nav head unit? Or does only the CD-23 use MOST?

All from memory about 4 or so years ago, so I might be wrong, but I believe for the NAV unit, BOSE was standard, and for CDR it was an option.

So I am not sure on that.

You might want to check this thread for an aftermarket unit people seem to like, and will cost you way less with factory looks.

Thanks for that. This Dynavin unit looks to be exactly what I've been looking for: a modern Nav unit that doesn't lose steering wheel controls and require gutting the whole system. Too bad it doesn't support satellite radio. Still, it should be a good improvement.
