Default PCM 2.1 navigation error

I recently updated my navigation DVD to the 2013 disc, everything was working fine for a couple of weeks but Friday the Nav became inoperative.

Pushing the map button brings up a screen saying "Error: Invalid database"

Ejecting the disc and putting it in has not helped.
Resetting the PCM with the 1,4,8 keys has not worked.

Any ideas?

Have you tried going to the SW page? Push the Main & Trip buttons simultaneously to see if things come up there, what versions, faults? If it works post your PCM & Nav software versions.

I used to get this on my backup disks (not saying you are doing anything).

The old disc seemed to wear out which makes no sense, but it might have been heat related or something that triggered the copy protection. I would make another copy of my original and it would be fine for a year or so.

Usually had to use the slowest speed and only worked with one type of media.

Do you have another disc you can try? If I recall you can't go back to your old set.

I have two original Porsche navigation discs, the old one that came with my car, and the 2013 update.

The update also came with a number of software update discs that I did not use, as it appeared unnecessary. Besides, nav disc did work for a couple of days

Should I try to update the PCM,and if so, what is the process?

You could try the update discs but I think you have the latest software that is available for PCM2.1 Maybe the Nav unit under the seat has an update that you need. It will be in one of your discs. PM Sent.

Turns out that it was the navigation update that was needed. Thank you Mark for the help.

For future reference, there is the PCM software which was current on my car, and did not need an update.
There is also the Navigation unit software, that needed to be updated to use the 2013 Map update.

Glad it worked. I'll check mine too just in case.

I never went to 2013 discs, but I do recall I had to do the updates first and it was non-reversible. I think you have to make sure what rev you are at too, and apply in that order (A, B, C, etc) I think my 2011(maybe that year) set came with all the discs, just only needed some.

I do seem to recall that some of the disc may be loaded into memory for caching, and when you access a new area it needs to read the DVD again, but I could also be blowing smoke.

If you just stuck the DVD in the drive, that may be your problem, the cache expired and the disc was accessed and mismatched.

I am pretty sure you update the PCM via the head unit first, then stick the DVD in afterwards in the drive under the seat.

This is for the 911 PCM 2.1 but should be the same. I didn't read through these directions, so make sure it makes sense first
