Default Will PCM 2.1 ('08 CTT) Support MP3 CDs?

I've burned a couple of CDs but my PCM doesn't seem to recognize them. It say checking CD but won't change the source. Does the '08 PCM 2.1 support MP3 CDs?

My 2006 PCM could, I only remember burning them as slow as possible, no long file names and some encodings did not work.

Burning CDs ?

What century are you guys in?

Get a Dension or MoBridge and kick yourself why you didn't get them sooner.

This. Burned MP3 CD's worked in both the CD changer and the dash CD on my '06 S.

Maybe it is the long filenames - all my music has 32 bit naming with proper punctuation and spaces. I'll do some experiments

Ok solved it! I use NERO to burn CDs and the default file system is UDF which PCM2.1 will not recognize. Tried file systems ISO 9660 Mode 1 and Mode 2/XA, both worked in the dash player. Neither works in the CD changer.

Bottom line use ISO 9660 Mode 1 or 2.

Cheap assery mainly, blank CDs, 50cents a piece and being able to fit 10-12 hours of music on a single CD seemed way cheaper than $700 or so for the mobridge

That would be about 1400 CDs to go through till I started wasting money!

Can't argue with you if it's an economic issue.

Havent really figured out myself, but PCM 2.1 in my 2007(8) turbo plays some discs. I write them at slowest speeds possible, but with most of the MP3 (data) discs I get read errors, and it only plays selection of tracks on the CD, shows all of them whilst looking under the "audio" menu. Can anyone please share how what do you use to create MP3 cds and which settings are used?

First off are you using CD-RW or CD-R media? CD-RW is not recommended for our old systems.

As far as burning the discs - you need an advanced program like Nero ($29) to be able to configure the burn correctly. You need to create ISO data discs (an option in Nero) and NOT UDF! UDF will not work as tested on my system.

I know that the aftermarket interfaces available out there now a days do some really cool stuff, but lets be honest not everyone would like to spend several hundred dollars just to be able to play music when you can just hear that awesome sound of the flat 6 Well mine is a daily driver and every now and then music is nice to have, so the best find so far n the car is that the PCM 2.1 does play MP3 and WMA file formats. probably not as cool as Dension, MoBridge and some others out there, but way chipper. An average of 150 songs give or take can be put in a single CD and well, you could have 2 in the glovebox CD holder and another in the system which means you could have about 400+ songs without having to spend a few hundred box that can be used for something more helpful like suspension, break, exhaust upgrades that might bring more joy to your Porsche ownership

Any way, the way to burn your music CDs playable in PCM 2.1 is create a folder, put your MP3/WMA files that you want to add about a little less than 700Mbs. Once you have gathered your music in it - right click on the folder and choose the burn option on a Windows machine, or control + click on the folder on a Mac and choose Burn to CD. The secret is to burn at the lowest possible speed your burner is capable of. Voila!! you are done. You could even put sub folders in that main folder to better categorize the songs within it, i.e. Artists, Albums, Genre. I hope that helps some folks out there. No need to spend any more money or use other software than what you already have.
