Torque converter seal leaking. Doe's anyone have a good local tech to replace. 03 S 122k. Need fix asap. I'm in the Conyers area but work in Buckhead. Dealer wants $1,850.00. I think someone can do this a little less expensive. TIA

I wonder if you are leaking coolant. Were the coolant pipes done?

I know it's the seal. I've been under the truck and removed the covers. Not the pipes, leak is from the center part of the transmission. but thanks.

I'm not saying the tcs isn't leaking. It's just that it's often coolant that eats at it and causes them to fail. Have you updated your coolant pipes to aluminum already?

it wasn't the coolant that did it, it was me. I was backing out of the driveway and before the car came to a stop I slide it down into drive and it jumped forward. when I got to where I was going it was pouring fluid from the tranny. I have not done the pipes yet. I did have to do the coolant holding tank as it was leaking.

cause and effect, transmission stress is unlikely to hurt the seal. What endless said +if its about to burst it could flood the V and total the starter motor

I have read all the stuff about the pipes and do understand that when they leak all the other stuff falls into to repair mood. But as it stands, my seal is leaking and I need to address that problem. I took it into the local Aamco to diagnosis and they thought after talking with the dealership it could be the pump behind the seal. The backing up and shifting while moving pretty good and making it jump really strong was when and what I would of thought caused the leak. It was abrupt and had never done that before that day. I guess a trip to the dealer is call for, thanks

I asked a really good Indy near me and he said about $1650 to do it if I truly needed it (and I didn't). So that price is close.

He said it's a $30 part, with a Tranmission drop in the way... hence the 97% labor cost.

With 122K, maybe it is not time to purchase a full rebuild from a known experienced Transmission mechanic. Isn't this just a ZF transmission? Old one out, new one in, send the core back to the builder. While this is more $ and work, it will suck when you repair the seal, only to have something to happen in the next 10k.

I know an experienced guy and the stories he has about Aamco type places would make you sick.

There may be some really good online options?

you can pick which advice you choose to listen to of course, but what your seeing has replayed on this board so many times, the outcome is inevitable. The highly corrosive coolant eats stuff. Pre emptive strike is the cheapest way to go

I did talk with the service tech at the dealer and he quoted me 1850. He had just replaced my fuel pumps and filters just before Christmas. My wife wants it gone as soon as I can get it repaired.
