Um, I really don't know but I'd check for OBD II error codes to see if there are any.
I do know there is some sort of electronic check valve in these vent systems. Maybe the fuse is blown that controls yours.
These are wild speculations on my part.

there are emissions tests for the fuel tank [e vap] .why did you replace the fuel cap ? it sounds like a tank vent problem but it should show a fault code. this problem just started out of the blue ? no other problems/work done on the car ?

I believe the tank, just like all gas thanks has to be vented, without solenoids or electronics controlling it. The thing we need to discover is how and where so we can check to see why it is clogged. ON the boat, I have had this issue before, but the vent is easy to locate. It is on the side of the boat. I take a wet dry vac to it to suck all the spiders out that like to clog it up. I am curious to know what would happen if we took a vac and hocked it up to be a blower and put it over the fill to blow out the vent.

oooppps my bad. i still feel it is a vent problem. how are the gas stations in eu. ours have vapor recovery systems that shut off or make you refuel at a very low rate

I don't think the tank vent system (which vents back to the Charcoal canister to store the vapors so they can be vented back to the intake when the engine is running) is the problem. Sounds like some type of mechanical blockage. If it is it would have to be some kind of fluke. Can you prop open the spring loader flapper just inside the cap, it is has one, and look down the filler? (the filler only goes straight for maybe 15cm then turns). What about taking a rubber hose (syphon type) and try to stick down the inlet to see if you feel any blockage? For those that have swapped fuel pumps, is there anything in the tank that could come loose and partially block where the inlet comes into the tank? (it would only take a partial blockage to cause a slight overfill to the gas stations fuel pump handle vent system and cause the pump to stop).

Try inverting the gas nozzle and see if it works. Some gas stations are not all that good with maintaining the nozzle spring mechanism. Always worked for me when it throws up fuel I invert nozzle works fine do it normally it pukes fuel. But more than likely a venting issue. Give it a try. Mike
