Buying a worse 2004 Cayenne with pipes done vs better car with pipes not done
#16
Thanks for the advice. I haven't tested the turbo as I can't afford it and for sure driving an S will then be a huge disappointed each time. Only turbo in my price range has 140,000 miles on clock versus 85000 for S (which is also 6 grand cheaper).
Is the turbo really worth the extra money and mileage in my particular shoes? (...checks credit card balance)

I agree with the advice to look at the options on each car. Personally, I did not think the air suspension was that big a deal on my old 955S. Of note, I preemptively had my pipes done at a dealer for $1500. The mention above of $2-3k sound high to me. Best of luck with your purchase.

So, I tested a turbo today and you guys are right.. lots of power, but not sure I will use it on the road... have my 944 for the track.. made an offer and the guy thinking of it..
but
I found a perfect 2004 S with low mileage, car was really good, but I am test dirivng it and next you think you steam from the front!
I turned off and then limped it home, I notice the water temp. was okay at low speed but under throttle it started to climb. When back to the owners garage its pis$ing water out the bottom.
I am guessing these pipes (or water pump) actually failed during my test drive.
Owner seemed genuine upset as not to realize it needed doing.
As a side point do you think Porsche will do the job for the owner? They are first owner and under 90,000 on clock. Is an 04' but man that sucked.. drove so far and felt so sorry for the owner not least myself as would have bought it.
Anyone any experience on the class action suit?

I did today, its awesome dont get me wrong. Got the guy down to 15k for it, noticed it locked front brakes up after I punched it and then I over shot braking into a turn. Next thing is Brake Booster warning light pops on. So basically, I broke two cayenne's testing them today! arf!
(sounds like vacuum line judging by this forum..which is great btw).. 15k for a 115,000 turbo or 12k for a 85000 S.
decisions!
Also just found a 2006 for the same price as a turbo.. might be smarter.. I think 06's have the aluminium pipes right? or is that the cross over year depends if its early or late 06?

I just had to have pipes done on my 06. I was told that they changed mid year and that there was not a VIN or manufacture date correlation. As others have mentioned, apparently you can use a mirror to visually check.
Parts are $750 or so on eBay and I seem to recall that it was about 12 hours labor. Dealer that I bought it from did the work and covered the parts at no cost to me as it happened within 200 miles of driving it off his lot (great dealer - I will be purchasing my next toy from him).
Had he not covered it, I would have been tempted to turn it into a two week project in my garage...

thanks Silver. I saw the video of how to do them and it looks within my capability with a whole bunch of posts on here for reassurance!
Just going to go off receipts for pipe job I think... if no receipt then it aint done. Everyone says its done when you ask.. the same way as the dealer who bought it at auction last month knows it was all 'highway miles'. lol
