Default High pressure fuel pump

Went to start the Cayenne last week (2012 turbo with 39K miles) and noticed the engine did not fire up as quickly as usual. Noticed the same symptom throughout the day, except by the end of the day vehicle seemed like it was trying to run on 5 cylinders, and had a message on the display "Reduced Engine Power." Called the dealership and was told, based on above, it was probably the high pressure fuel pump. Diagnosis confirmed the following day. Part was available from Atlanta, thank God! The part they installed was remanufactured, which I had a number of questions about. SA informed me the factory continually updates remanufactured parts so that when a given part is needed, it's the latest release. Cost of the part was ~$1600, which was covered under warranty. Was also told the 958 has 3 fuel pumps. The high pressure pump is under the hood, and the other 2 pumps are in the back of the vehicle (not sure where). SA also said this was the 1st 958 they've seen that needed this part replaced.

Have a 2011 s , at 50100 had the same exact problem. One pump was changed initially , then problem returned a couple of weeks later, a second pump was changed and now it's seems okay. It took 3 visits to rectify the problem..you are not alone.

The "back of the vehicle" is actually inside the fuel tank.

CS11, well, now I don't feel quite as lonely. Sorry to hear it took 3 visits to get the problem rectified. Did they replace the pump with a new pump, or remanufactured one? Did they have any idea as to why the 1st replacement failed?

They replaced it with a new one, to my knowledge. I doubt the dealership know why. My service guy said it was the pump from the get go, but Porsche told them to change something else in the beginning..then the second time Porsche told them to change one pump , third time they changed another..it looked like Porsche tried the cheaper options before getting to big money changes. I'm glad it done because I got fed up going there, even though I had a nice panamera loaner. I took it to Rusnak Pasadena.
