Interesting. Did your distributor housing fitting start to leak but not actually blow out completely?

This really needs to be a recall as it's being documented by so many here. Let's get vocal!

Was there any suggestion the OEM antifreeze deteriorated causing the 'glue' to become unstable thus separating the joint?

Be interesting to observe if theres any relationship between coolant age and this failure.

There was a reference to non OEM fluids as potentially being another cause or accelerator to failure.

I dont recall any leaking just the sudden poof of coolant and water vapor coming out of the engine and the accompanying poof sound and then total loss/separation of the parts.

Does the high pressure pump need to be out of the way to view the fitting with an inspection camera? I poked around today looking to see if the fitting in my 08 has started to work its way out but could not see the fitting.

Maybe I am not looking in the right location? I am smelling a faint smell of coolant but dont see any drips on the garage floor.

No. The first pic i posted using the scope was taken with the HP fuel pump still in place. I did however remove the central plastic trim panel behind the engine as this makes access much easier. It definitely will take a few minutes to locate.

thanks for all this great info - any thoughts whether this failure is more based on 'miles' or 'age' or both? reason for ? I am looking at an '08 with 5k orig miles - vehicle is going to dealer for recall on high pressure fuel pump, and I am trying to talk dealer into checking and if needed reconnecting the connection in ? w/out dropping the engine (dealer is owned by Fletcher Jones and seems by reputation good to work with) - I checked with a potential warranty company and they said would not cover a failure on the water distributor, hence the any damage to the engine itself will be 'naked' so I am looking at doing a proactive fix of this if I end up buying the vehicle

It can happen at at any time. Just ask some of the GT-3 and 911 Turbo owners. I have 77k and (knock on wood!) and no issues yet. I am watching it carefully, however. BTW, this is unique to the Turbo in the Cayenne line.

Cheers,
TomF

Tom, not sure if it was a typo in the above post, but this issue is definitely not limited to turbo Cayenne's.
It happened on my Cayenne S.

I have a 2009 turbo S. I am smelling coolant as well. Is this an issue with the Turbo S models as well? Sleeve pulling out? I haven't had a chance to look back there yet..but i will..

Interesting. I thought the revised water distributor was fitted from the factory to 2009-2010 models.
